Description

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in automation and controls engineering, ideally within automotive, powertrain, or battery testing domains.
  • Strong expertise with Allen-Bradley and/or Siemens PLCs, HMIs, I/O modules, and drive systems.
  • Hands-on experience programming and deploying industrial robotics (Fanuc experience preferred).
  • Proficiency in PLC programming languages: Ladder Logic, Function Block, and Structured Text.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and IO-Link.
  • Experience with higher-level programming languages (Python, C#, SQL) for test automation and data integration.
  • Proven ability to design, develop, and commission automated test systems from concept to execution.
  • Working knowledge of CAD tools (AutoCAD, CATIA) for system design.
  • Strong organizational skills with experience managing schedules, documentation, and cross-functional deliverables.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a highly skilled engineer to join our Powertrain Battery Development and Test team at Lucid. In this role, you will design, develop, and implement automation solutions that enable world-class battery testing, validation, and production processes. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure our equipment and systems meet the highest standards of safety, efficiency, and performance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Design and develop automated test equipment and systems to support battery development, validation, and production.
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers to select control components and design electrical cabinets, power distribution systems, and cable management solutions.
  • Program, configure, and integrate PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and industrial communication networks to support automated battery test operations.
  • Establish standards for control systems, including hardware, software, safety, and maintenance procedures.
  • Plan and execute multi-phase development strategies aligned with battery lifecycle stages (prototype, validation, and production).
  • Partner with battery engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure automation systems align with product performance, testing requirements, and production scalability.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts to integrate third-party equipment into Lucid’s battery test and development ecosystem.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance automation processes to improve test throughput, data accuracy, cost efficiency, and system reliability.
