Description
About the role We’re growing our smart water and digital solutions team and are looking for Business Development Engineers to support this growth. There are opportunities for people who prefer more office-based, technical support work as well as for those who enjoy customer-facing, field-based work — depending on your experience and strengths, the role can be tailored to suit. You’ll work with councils, consultants, and contractors, helping them understand and adopt smart technology solutions. You’ll support projects from early engagement through to delivery, applying your technical knowledge while helping grow the business and deliver results. What you'll be doing • Build and support relationships with councils, consultants, and contractors • Identify and develop opportunities for smart technology and digital solutions • Work with customers to understand requirements and recommend practical solutions • Prepare or support proposals, pricing, and tender submissions • Support or manage a pipeline of opportunities and keep information up to date • Provide technical guidance and help translate product capability into real-world use • Deliver or support training for internal teams and customers • Stay up to date with technology, products, and market trends What you'll bring • 2–5 years’ experience in a relevant field (engineering, water, utilities, construction, or technical sales) • Experience in a customer-facing, project, or support role with some commercial exposure • Ability to apply technical knowledge in a practical, customer-focused way • Confidence working with or alongside councils, consultants, or contractors • Strong communication skills — able to adapt your approach to different audiences • A proactive attitude and ability to manage your time and priorities • Understanding of business value, pricing, and project drivers • Relevant qualification in engineering, technology, or a related field (preferred) • Full driver’s licence A bit about you You might come from a technical or engineering background and be looking to step into a more customer-facing role. Or you might already be working with customers and want to build deeper technical expertise. Either way, you enjoy solving problems, working with people, and being part of a team that delivers results and makes a difference to the business. About Hynds Smarterwater Hynds is a proudly New Zealand-owned business and a leading supplier of water infrastructure products. Hynds Smarterwater focuses on smart technology — helping customers use data and connected systems to better manage their networks. This is an opportunity to join a growing part of the business where you can develop both your technical skills and commercial experience, with support from an experienced national team.
