POSITION DESCRIPTION: Coordinate site-specific planning, development, staff oversight, and implementation of all activities for the Youth and Family Department. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Adhere to and implement YMCA mission and philosophy. Always model and support the YMCA character values (Honesty, Caring, Respect, Responsibility). Responsible for upholding the YMCA employee appearance guidelines. Mentor and train staff by leading groups, games, and activities. Ensure the safety and well-being of all staff and children. Supervise and encourage staff to provide a safe and healthy environment. Establish a positive relationship with school and program staff and its participants. Prepare and distribute USDA and HEPA approved snacks and/or meals to participants. Perform daily count of meals and snacks served. Know and implement licensing requirements of DHS for school age programs. Maintain acceptable DHS licensed ratios at all times. Administer and oversee the curriculum outlines daily as part of the goals set in conjunction with the YMCA Director. Maintain accurate paperwork including incident reports, discipline forms, registration forms, staff documents, attendance sheets, and enrollment records. Keep areas clean and equipment organized. Report any facility concerns or safety issues to Director. Communicate regularly with children and parents. Develop and distribute monthly site newsletters. Assist the Youth & Family department with departmental tasks and shift coverage. Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors, and volunteers. EFFECT ON END RESULTS: This position directly affects the overall YMCA’s operation. When done properly, the Program will have grown and will help provide a positive atmosphere and enhance the Mission of the YMCA. Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must stay current in CPR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually. (Training provided by the Y, if needed) Must complete all required Redwoods Trainings within 30 days of hire and renewed annually. Must exemplify and support the philosophy of the YMCA. Must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and have 12 hours elementary education or child development course work OR at least two years' experience working with children. Should embody patience, sensitivity, maturity, and the ability to relate well to both children and adults. Scheduling, supervising, and evaluating staff, address parent concerns and communicate effectively both oral and written.
