ABOUT THIS POSITION
This position is responsible for supervising, training and evaluating staff in the delivery of services to families, providers, and community members in Options for Learning’s Behavior Health and Wellness Department. This department will provide direct mental health services, as well as classroom behavior and management support, to classrooms enrolling children from infancy through elementary school.
The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, work both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. What you’ll be doing
- Supervising behavior health coordinators;
- Training classroom staff, coordinators, and supervisors to implement proactive classroom management techniques aligned with approved classroom curriculum (i.e., Conscience Discipline, HighScope, etc.);
- Developing and facilitating trainings on a range of early childhood mental health topics for classroom staff, coordinators, and supervisors to implement effective behavior interventions and behavior plans for individuals and groups of children;
- Providing direct mental health services, consultation, and management to organization staff, as well as students and their families;
- Conducting consistent and ongoing consultation meetings/conversations, observations, assessments, and other consultative/therapeutic activities;
- Supporting the classroom behavior coordinators, inclusion coordinators, and inclusion specialists in developing and implementing individualized behavior plans for specific children and particular classrooms;
- Completing all documentation as required by the contract and according to the organization’s procedures and practices;
- Collaborating with the Early Learning, School-age, Inclusion, and Family Engagement teams to address the needs of the children, families, and teachers and to ensure that all staff receive support and training for children with challenging behaviors;
- Supporting the referral process for community-based services and resources as needed;
- Communicating effectively with community partners, families and staff;
- Providing interventions to assist with mental health or behavioral crisis as they arise, including with situations related to mandated reporting and any suspected child abuse, adhering to laws and regulations.
- Maintaining detailed records for the monitoring of mental health referrals for Early Learning and School-age programs;
- Reviewing appropriate documentation and providing feedback as a member of the department management team, including collaborating as needed to complete the Head Start Program Information Report (PIR);
- Overseeing the documentation and tracking of mental health services identified, delivered, and referred for Early Learning and School-age children;
- Reporting data to the program team and organization leadership team as needed;
- Maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations for Early Learning and School-age programs;
- Using data gathered to identify training needs for teaching staff, coordinators, and supervisors to effectively support the children and families in the program;
- Working effectively with other team members;
- Assisting managers, directors, vice presidents of center-based programs, and the chief program officer as needed;
- Reading and implementing all organization and program policies and procedures;
- Accurately completing all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis, according to organization policies and procedures;
- Actively participating in staff meetings and the annual in-service;
- Abiding by all of Options for Learning’s policies and procedures;
- Attending trainings as required;
- Overseeing the documentation and tracking of mental health services identified, delivered, and referred for Early Learning and School-age children;
- Reporting data to the program team and organization leadership team as needed;
- Maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations for Early Learning and School-age programs;
- Using data gathered to identify training needs for teaching staff, coordinators, and supervisors to effectively support the children and families in the program;
- Working effectively with other team members;
- Assisting managers, directors, vice presidents of center-based programs, and the chief program officer as needed;
- Reading and implementing all organization and program policies and procedures;
- Accurately completing all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis, according to organization policies and procedures;
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
What you bring to the table
- Master’s degree or higher in marriage and family therapy, psychology, social work, child development, or a related behavioral science field (as deemed by the organization);
- Clinical licensure as an LMFT, LCSW, LPCC, or psychologist in California;
- Holding a license for at least two years and being in full compliance with all professional continuing education requirements and supervisor hours to maintain the license;
- Three years of experience working with children (from newborn to age 5);
- Knowledge of early development and work experience in group settings with children;
- Demonstrate an understanding of early childhood mental health consultation to support the mental health capacities of teachers, staff, familie, and others who care for young children;
- Experience developing and presenting workshops for adults;
- Must complete mandated reporter certification training, to be renewed every two years;
- Health screening and TB clearance, to be renewed every five years;
- Successful background screening;
- Command of Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese (preferred);
- Ability to correctly and effectively communicate in written and oral English;
- A California driver’s license, daily use of an automobile, and automobile liability insurance (preferred).

Job specifications
- Reports to the behavior health and wellness manager;
- Full-time, year-round position;
- Eight-hour workday, four-day workweek;
- Hybrid work schedule with approval by management;
- Organization-wide winter break;

Salary
- $100,000 to $110,000 per year (candidates should anticipate receiving an offer within the first quartile of the salary range).
