Description Title: Behavior Intervention Associate Supervisor: Director of Student Services Department: Special Education & Student Services Classification: Non-Exempt Contract Length: Part Time (20-25 hours weekly / 10-month position - 197 day) Founded in 2000, the Milwaukee Academy of Science (MAS) is a K4-12th grade independent charter school serving over 1,300 scholars. The mission of MAS is to graduate students prepared to compete successfully at the post-secondary level. African American students comprise 99% of the student body and over 95% of students qualify for free or reduced meals. Regardless of student background and external factors, MAS maintains the expectation that with the support of our school community all students can and will learn, and will graduate high school prepared for their post-secondary educational experience. Job Summary: The Behavior Intervention Associate plays a vital role in creating safe, supportive, and engaging classrooms for all students in the Elementary (K-5) setting. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about working directly with children, supporting positive behavior, and helping students build social-emotional and self-regulation skills. The specialist will partner closely with teachers, and other staff to provide 1:1 and small-group behavioral and academic support to students, while helping maintain consistency and structure in classrooms. I. Position Relationships: Reports to: Director of Student Services Coordinates with: School Leaders, Special Education Staff, Teachers, Service Providers, etc. II. Position Responsibilities: A. Direct Student Support B. Assist in working with an individual student or group of students in the classroom or in a separate setting removed from the classroom C. Implement de-escalation and restorative strategies to help students return to learning quickly and safely. D. Determine the readiness of and facilitate a student’s return to his/her regular class E. Model and reinforce positive behaviors, coping skills, and problem-solving techniques. F. Collect daily behavior data and document student progress toward individualized goals. G. Support students in developing routines, self-management, and conflict-resolution skills. H. Complete regular proactive and preventative walk-throughs throughout the entire academy I. Effectively communicate with families and administration about student behavior interventions J. Assist in the supervision of students in the performance of academic tasks, using materials and methods provided by teachers K. Demonstrate knowledge of and practice intervention strategies in managing the behavior of students in emotionally stressful and crisis situations. L. Mediate student conflicts as necessary. III. Classroom & Schoolwide Support A. Collaborate with teachers to maintain a positive, structured learning environment. B. Assist in implementing classroom management systems, including reinforcement plans and visual supports. C. Support transitions such as breakfast, recess, lunch, and dismissal to ensure safety and consistency. D. Partner with teachers to enhance classroom routines and reinforce positive student behaviors. E. Assist in supervising students during arrival, dismissal, recess, lunch and off-campus activities IV. Collaboration & Communication A. Work collaboratively with the Dean of Culture, special education staff, and student services team. B. Participate in team meetings to review student progress and adjust intervention plans. C. Communicate regularly with staff regarding student successes, needs, and triggers. D. Uphold school-wide expectations and model professionalism, empathy, and consistency. E. Maintain confidentiality at all times; maintain good attendance and flexibility while working cooperatively with supervisors and other employees V.
