Description Legal Aid of West Virginia (LAWV) is seeking a Behavioral Health Advocate to protect and promote the rights of patients at William R. Sharpe, Jr. Hospital. Patients at Sharpe Hospital are involuntarily committed through civil or criminal processes. This role ensures individuals receiving behavioral health treatment are treated with dignity, respect, and fairness. What You’ll Do Advocate for patient rights and humane treatment Monitor compliance with state and federal regulations Investigate complaints, abuse, or neglect concerns Assist patients with grievances, resources, and legal access Provide education to patients and staff on rights and responsibilities Maintain accurate, confidential documentation Requirements Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience Commitment to behavioral/mental health advocacy Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills Ability to balance administrative work with direct client advocacy Familiarity or willingness to learn case management systems and office technology A respectful, professional, and compassionate demeanor Make a Difference Join LAWV and help ensure justice, dignity, and quality care for some of West Virginia’s most vulnerable individuals.
