Description Legal Aid of West Virginia, Inc., (LAWV) is looking for a qualified individual to serve as a Behavioral Health Advocate (BHA) inside Mildred Mitchell-Bateman Hospital in Huntington, WV. M.M. Bateman Hospital is one of two state-run psychiatric facilities. Patient residents are involuntarily committed by court order through either the civil mental hygiene process or the criminal justice process. As a BHA Facility Advocate, you will ensure that patients are treated with dignity and respect, that their rights are not violated, and that they are free from staff abuse and neglect. Requirements Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to understanding and addressing issues of adults with a mental/behavioral health diagnosis. Must have a four-year degree or equivalent experience. Must have skills to use office technologies, including learning LAWV case management software. Must be able to balance administrative and client advocacy responsibilities.
Responsibilities
As a Behavioral Health Advocate, you will ensure that patients are treated with dignity and respect, and that their rights are not violated. You will also work to protect patients from staff abuse and neglect.
