Description Founded in 1866, The Floating Hospital (TFH), is one of the last remaining charity hospitals in New York City. Our commitment is the same as it was more than 160years ago: unrestricted healthcare to all who walk through our doors, regardless of immigration and insurance status, or the ability to pay. The Floating Hospital welcomes individuals of all ages, from infants, school age children (5+), youth and adults. TFH is a Federally Qualified Health Center and the largest provider to homeless families living in family shelters and domestic violence safe houses throughout all five boroughs. Essential duties include: • Professionally greets individuals, answers phones, and answers patients’ questions. • Liaises between the behavioral health providers and patients to coordinate schedules and create appointments. • Assists with patient check in, verifying patient information, obtaining all clinic required signatures and paperwork (e.g., Consents for treatment, HIPAA acknowledgment). • Ensures pre-visit questionnaires are completed and assists patients with these as needed. • Collects co-payments and or deductibles at the time-of-service. • Assists patients in understanding their insurance benefits and patient responsibilities, explaining any benefit memos, preauthorization requirements, etc., to ensure expeditious billing. • Confirms next-day appointments, verifies insurance benefits and obtains prior authorization as necessary for Behavioral Health • Manages cancellations, finding best alternatives for all involved. • Recalls patients who missed prior day’s appointments to attempt to re-schedule their visits. • Collaborates with all departments to communicate effectively regarding patient flow, anticipating backlogs and proactively problem-solving. • Conducts Pharmacy calls, order prescriptions/refills for patients upon request from psychiatric prescribers. • Participates in weekly staff meetings. • Other duties as assigned. Requirements We are in search of a scheduler who possesses a wealth of knowledge pertaining to NYS Medicaid Managed, Medicare, and Commercial Plans. It is essential that they are able to engage with BH patients using a friendly and personable approach. The preferred candidate should also possess a strong attention to detail and be fluent in Spanish or another language. The ideal candidate must hold an associate degree, bachelor's degree, or have equivalent training and experience. In addition, they must possess a minimum of two years of front desk/registration experience, as well as a comprehensive understanding of current health insurance plans. They must also possess exceptional customer service skills, attention to detail, reliability, resourcefulness, and a strong work ethic. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and electronic medical record software (Athena Health) would be highly advantageous.
