Description Position Purpose: The Behavioral Health Tech is a vital member of the Haven House Inc. System of Care. The Behavioral Health Tech is under the supervision of the Program Director / Counselor and is responsible for the complete care and wellbeing of the clients while they are treated at Haven House Inc., as well as record patient behavior, and provide a safe, supportive environment for the patients. Responsibilities: Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to changes in the work environment Work together as a team to provide each client the best care possible Set appropriate boundaries with clients and Haven House Team Members Complete and forward an email copy of Incident Reports immediately to the BHT supervisor, the counselor, the Director of Operations, and Clinical Director Attend all Haven House Team Members meetings Provide supervision of self-administered medications Monitor and observe client behavior with documentation in shift reports Count and keep track of all clients on the Census during hourly rounds and throughout the day Search new admission belongings to ensure no contraband is brought into the facility, and all valuables and medications are secured Do not discuss any client information in front of other clients. This includes the level of care programs, medication and former clients as all clients are protected by HIPPA. Conduct random searches of the client rooms along with random UA’s and breathalyzers Answering all house phone calls and directing them to the appropriate parties Haven House Team Members are not to have relationships with current clients or former clients Do not argue or use vulgar language in front of the clients or talk about employees or clients to other Team Members and or clients If you have a concern about an employee or client, you need to speak with the Lead Recovery Technician, to ensure that this matter is addressed in a professional manner Enforce all client rules and guidelines to the best of your ability. Consistency within the department is imperative, not only for the clients but for your Haven House Team Member as well Follow ethical guidelines in accordance with the state of Maryland. Performs other duties assigned. Requirements Driver's License Adhere to Confidentiality requirements as outlined in 42 CFR, Part 2. Must have the ability to interact with staff and patients in a professional manner. The ability to handle stressful and demanding situations, and exceptional communication skills Knowledge of addictions. Ability to interact with a multidisciplinary team to assist in facets of the recovery program relating to physical health. Knowledge of the 12-Step Recovery Program. Knowledge and competency in problem solving, stress management, ethics and team building. Knowledge of alcohol and other drugs that includes; Alcohol and addictive drugs and their physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual impact on the individual. Alcohol and addictive drugs and their impact on the family. Ability to determine if a medical emergency exists and to take appropriate action, when necessary. Knowledge of emergency procedures used in case of alcohol and/or drug overdose. Knowledge of First Aid and CPR. Knowledge of Federal, State and Municipal laws and/or regulations that regulate the treatment of alcoholism and drug addiction, including: Confidentiality, Patient Rights, Professional Code of Ethics, Discrimination Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes and assumption of responsibilities not delineated in the job description which are related to work as a member of an addiction treatment team.
