The purpose of a behavioral health therapist is to assess, diagnose and treat individuals using individual, family, couples and/or group counseling and make informed, appropriate referrals in order to assist individuals in achieving mutually agreed upon goals, promoting recovery and leading to a more satisfying, emotionally and socially healthy life. Providers work in an integrated care environment, and deliver recovery-oriented whole-person care. Behavioral Health Therapists counsel individuals, families, couples or groups regarding psychological or emotional problems such as stress, substance abuse, or family situations to develop and implement therapeutic treatment plans in clinic settings by performing the following duties. Provide assessments, treatment planning, treatment, discharge planning and consultation. Interviews clients, reviews records, and confers with other professionals to obtain pertinent information. Works with people presenting with psychological or emotional problems such as stress, substance abuse, or family situations. If trained and certified, selects and administers various tests such as psychological tests, personality inventories, and intelligence quotient tests, to identify behavioral or personality traits and intelligence levels, and records results. If trained and certified, reviews results of tests to evaluate client needs. Plans and administers therapeutic treatment such as behavior modification and stress management therapy to assist patients in controlling disorders and other problems. Provide therapeutic treatment in individual, family, couples or group settings. Discusses progress toward mutually established therapeutic goals with patients to evaluate success of therapy, and adapts treatment as needed. Consults with medical doctor or other specialists concerning treatment plan and amends plan as directed. Conducts therapy sessions. Participates in clinical meetings partnering with a multi-disciplinary team in service delivery including medical teams, care coordinators, peer specialists, community health workers, etc. Plans and administers therapeutic treatment by telephonic/ telehealth methodologies as indicated by patient needs and state guidelines. Refers patients to additional services to supplement treatment and counseling. Documents the visit in the EMR in an accurate and timely manner. Participates in behavioral health quality improvement programs. · Appropriate use of PPE/infection control protocols when providing treatment to patients. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Education Requirements Bachelors Degree plus a Master Degree in counseling required. Preferred Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Electronic Health Record Systems Database software and Word Processing software. Required Credentials, Certification, Licensure Ph.D or PsyD and.or LPC, LCSW, LMFT; Specific training/certifications may be required for certain types of therapy/assessment. Responsibilities
The Behavioral Health Therapist assesses, diagnoses, and treats individuals through various counseling methods. They work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to provide recovery-oriented whole-person care.
