Description

As a Behavioral Support Specialist (BSS) at BrightPath Human Services, you will play a key role in supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) by developing, implementing, and maintaining individualized Behavioral Support Plans (BSPs) and Restrictive Behavioral Support Plans (RBSPs). You will provide direct training to all Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) on these plans and serve as a valued member of the leadership team, reporting directly to the Director of IDD Services.
This role requires a balanced approach, with approximately 50% of your time spent in the office and 50% in the field, engaging directly with the individuals we serve. You must also be available for on-call support during crisis situations. Typical schedule is M-F 8am-4pm.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • 3–5 years of experience working with individuals with behavioral challenges and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in the human services field is preferred, but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire staff in a supportive and professional manner.
  • Strong crisis management and conflict resolution skills.
  • Proficiency in maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with discretion.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must pass all pre-employment screenings (background check, physical exam, drug screen, and health clearance).
  • Must hold a current, valid Pennsylvania driver’s license (or out-of-state license for no more than three months upon hire).

EDUCATION

  • Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Applied Behavior Analysis, or a related human services field or Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work or Applied Behavior Analysis and 4 years of experience working as a BSS or directly with IDD.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience developing and implementing behavioral support plans for individuals with behavioral and/or intellectual disabilities.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and implementation of high-quality clinical services tailored to individual needs.
  • Collaborate with the internal leadership team, including the Executive Director/CEO, Director of IDD Services and Program Director & Program Managers to address high clinical needs.
  • Review incident reports from both internal and external sources, particularly for individuals with complex clinical or mental health needs.
  • Serve as Chairperson of the Human Rights Team, ensuring ethical and legal compliance with all behavioral interventions.
  • Participate in meetings and provide clinical input when restrictive procedures are being considered or implemented.
  • Ensure all documentation related to Human Rights reviews and approvals is completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Provide training and consultation to local leadership and staff to increase understanding of mental health diagnoses and best practices for community-based support.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive clinical documentation.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
