Are you passionate about supporting youth and families facing complex mental health and behavioural challenges? As a Behavioural Specialist, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing practical, evidence-based strategies that promote stability, recovery, and wellbeing. Working under the guidance of the Clinical Supervisor and reporting to the Manager, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide services across the Child, Youth, & Family Department. Positions primary site is the PAS program, an intensive youth mental health and addiction day treatment service provided in collaboration with local school divisions, you may also support other areas of the department based on operational needs. In this role, you will: Conduct behavioural and systemic assessments. Develop individualized behavioural support plans. Provide consultation, coaching, and capacity-building to staff, families and natural supports. Provide group facilitation. Recognize behaviour as a form of communication, often rooted in trauma, mental health concerns, or developmental disruptions. Collaborate with clients, families, and stakeholders to address underlying needs and optimize functioning. Apply trauma-informed, harm reduction, and client-centred approaches in all aspects of care.
Description:

As a Behaviour Specialist, you will apply assessments and develop and implement concrete and practical mental health and behavioural strategies that can be utilized by all staff and supports within the client’s care network. An essential skill of this position is understanding how behaviour is a form of communication that can be manifested as a result of mental health, trauma, substance use, dynamics that interrupt a youth’s developmental needs, as well as other internal or external behavioural factors. Under the supervision of a clinical supervisor, you will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team and stakeholders to provide support to individuals and families. You will explore the underlying needs exacerbated by behaviour related to addiction and mental health concerns and provide consultation, behavioural and systemic assessments, and interventions that may include capacity building through education and coaching. You will also work with staff and stakeholders including clients, families, and natural environments, development of behavioural support plans to optimize functioning and well-being, and case management.
