Sims Metal is the world’s leading publicly listed metal recycler, with operations encompassing the buying, processing, and selling of ferrous and non-ferrous recycled metals. POSITION OVERVIEW

Responsible for the day-to-day service, administration, and analysis, of benefit plans including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, flexible spending accounts, health spending accounts, ACA, 401(k), pension plans, COBRA, and FMLA. Coordinate with benefits vendors, resolve escalated issues regarding eligibility, enrollment, and claims, oversee benefit systems, and manage the leave of absence process including disability claims and payments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Accounting, or Business Administration or relevant job experience.
  • Minimum 5 years Corporate Benefits experience in an organization with 300+ employees
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, analytical, and time management skills.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of human resource information systems.
  • Fluent in English and Spanish preferred

Responsibilities

Subject matter expert for all leave of absence, disability, FMLA, ADA, and State claims. Responsible for disability calculations, reporting, communications, and vendor management.

  • Administer various benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, FSA plans, HSA accounts, commuter benefits, EAP, and the Company’s 3 pension plans.
  • Point of contact for various benefit issues such as coverage, enrollment eligibility, family status changes, claims, and other benefit matters.
  • Understanding all applicable government laws and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels, which impact employee benefits.
  • Maintain relationships with insurance carriers, consultants, actuaries, brokers, record keepers, and third-party administrators.
  • Manage premium payments and the reconciliation of various benefit premiums/claim payments.
  • Audit records and benefits eligibility periodically.
  • Resolution of employee issues and data and vendor errors.
  • Ensure data integrity for online enrollments and file integrations to carriers and internal systems.
  • Prepare and maintain departmental billing.
  • Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefit processes.
  • Develop and implement communication/education programs to enhance member knowledge, appreciation, and effective use of benefits.
  • Maintain employee communications on the company intranet.
  • Gather health benefits information from a variety of sources for completion of benefit projects.
  • Assist with annual open enrollment projects.
  • Assist with the administration of retirement plans (401(k) plans and pension plans)
  • Work on projects that may be assigned ad hoc and assist other corporate initiatives, as necessary.
