The Benefits Generalist is responsible for the daily operation functions related to benefits, including 401(k) and enforcing Garden policies and practices. Position Information: Employment Type: Full time, Exempt Schedule: Monday - Friday (8:00am - 5:00pm) Location: On Site (Desert Botanical Garden) Salary: $65,000 - $75,000/yr DOE Essential Duties · Responsible for the administration of all Garden health and retirement benefits including 401(k) plus wellbeing, health and safety functions to assist employees in understanding garden benefit offerings and work directly with all vendors and benefits broker. Provide guidance during claims or enrollment process. Answer employee’s benefit related questions. · Manage all aspects of leave of absence requests - FMLA, paid parental leave, ADA, worker’s compensation, STD and LTD leaves and claims. This includes tracking, documentation and ensuring compliance. · Notify and approve benefits for new hires and newly eligible employees ensuring they are enrolled in benefits. Manage enrollments and changes. Coordinate open enrollment periods with benefits broker and Senior Director of Human Resources. Process enrollments, changes and terminations. · Oversee the Maricopa County Trip Reduction Program. · Responsible for all steps in the planning and agenda for Garden all staff meetings and ensuring that twice a year the meeting focuses on benefits open enrollment and retirement plan review. · Manage APGA membership of all employees ensuring new hires are added as members and departing employees are removed. · Responsible for various HR training as determined and needed. Develop, conduct or facilitate required and recommended training sessions. · Address first line employee relations issues. · Reconcile benefit statements and approve all HR invoices for payment through Sage. · Serve as a team member of HR with knowledge of Total Rewards program. Works as a team with Senior Director of HR and benefits broker during open enrollment. Work directly with payroll provider and benefits broker to set up benefits in systems. · Ensure regulatory compliance. Regulatory compliance to include preparing special reports and analysis and assisting with all 401(k), benefits and worker’s compensation audits to prepare 5500s etc. Ensure all annual Total Compensation statements are compiled and distributed. · Knowledgeable of Garden HR policies and benefits to provide administrative support to employees by guiding them through various human resources processes and answering questions about policies, benefits and HR-related questions. · Knowledge of laws to comply with all HR local, state and federal regulations. This includes ensuring adherence to all federal, state and local regulations regarding employee benefits. · Maintain knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes and new technologies in human resources. · Available to work off hours such as weekends and evenings. Requirements Competencies · Four years of applicable experience in benefits and compensation generalist functions. · Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration or related field or comparable combination of education and work experience. · Knowledge of Secure 2.0, all federal, state and local laws and regulations related to employment and benefits, worker’s compensation laws, ADA, etc. A solid understanding of employee benefit programs, policies and relevant regulations is essential. · Good written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills to work well with all staffing levels and to explain complex information clearly. · High level of confidentiality and professionalism · Competency with Microsoft Office Suite software. HRIS and reporting experience preferred · High levels of integrity, confidentiality and discretion. · Possesses comprehensive knowledge of benefits subject matter. · Familiarity with HRIS and other benefits administration software is required. · Strong business acumen; able to build collaborative relationships; share knowledge , embrace ambiguity and thrive with changing priorities. · Decision making and conflict management skills. Strong analytical, mathematical and problem-solving skills. · High level of accuracy to handle enrollments, process data and reconcile invoices correctly. · Ability to research and resolve issues related to benefits and claims. · Research and organizational skills; problem-solving and analytical thinking skills. · Detail -oriented with time-management skills. · Ability to multitask and prioritize. · Team-oriented with HR team and all departments. · Event planning experience. · Ability to work off-hours with occasional evenings, weekends, and /or holidays. Requires flexible time schedule. Potential for tight deadlines or time periods of high workload may require additional hours. The noise level is usually minimum. The role requires the ability to walk, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, bend, see, hear, speak, read and type. Manual dexterity and the ability to lift up to 10 pounds required.
