POSITION OVERVIEW

The Benefits Manager is responsible for administering and communicating employee benefits programs for a large, multi-state organization with 2,000+ employees. This role will lead benefit operations including vendor management, compliance, open enrollment, audits, and employee engagement initiatives. The Benefits Manager partners closely with internal HR/Finance teams and external vendors to ensure programs remain compliant, cost-effective, and aligned with company strategy while delivering a positive employee experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of progressive benefits administration experience in large, multi-state organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required; Master’s or HR certification (CEBS, SHRM, PHR/SPHR) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of health/welfare benefits, 401(k) administration, and compliance.
  • Experience with HRIS and benefits technology platforms.
  • Proven vendor management expertise with strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills with the ability to balance multiple priorities.
    Compensation - $55-65/hr depending on experience

Responsibilities
  • Manage administration of health, welfare, and retirement benefit plans, ensuring compliance with ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, and other federal/state regulations.
  • Oversee 401(k) audits, annual filings, and routine benefits audits to maintain accuracy and compliance.
  • Lead benefit operations including monthly invoicing, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Drive successful execution of annual Open Enrollment, including HRIS testing, communications, and employee support.
  • Serve as primary contact for benefit vendors, overseeing performance, addressing escalations, and identifying opportunities for program enhancements.
  • Partner with vendors to deliver ongoing employee engagement campaigns (wellness, EAP, financial programs, etc.).
  • Develop clear, employee-friendly benefits communications and resources to support awareness and utilization.
  • Lead or support special projects such as process improvements, plan design initiatives, and technology integrations.
