The postholder has overall responsibility forthe provision of care, support and advice to women and their families following the loss of their baby through late miscarriage/TOP, stillbirth, or neonatal death. It will include aspects of direct clinical care and bereavement support and follow up, as well as being the named midwifery contact for bereaved parents in the postnatal period, ensuring continuing midwifery support is offered following discharge from hospital, through home visits, telephone communication dependent on the familys wishes. Responsibilities will include oversight of the bereavement service to ensure that the standard of care is in line with the National Bereavement Care Pathway, and to seek areas for improvements to maintain a high quality service. There will also be responsibility for staff training in bereavement care and the taking of post-mortem consent, as well as ensuring compliance with the requirements of the Maternity Incentive Scheme, reporting of eligible cases to MBRRACE-UK, together with supporting PMRT reviews of care both locally and as external representation for other Trusts.
The role will include liaison with other specialists and services including Coroner, Medical Examiner, Pathologist, mortuary services and funeral director to coordinate the service
