About the job
Job Title: BI & Reporting Analyst (Cognos / Power BI)
Location: UK – Fully Remote
Salary: £60,000 - £65,000 per annum
About the Role
The role has two clear strands of work: maintaining and supporting the Cognos and Power BI reports that the business currently relies on, and helping test that those same reports continue to function correctly as the underlying data warehouse migrates to the cloud. You will report into a hands-on team lead and work alongside a senior Power BI specialist and a SQL engineer.
This is a hire into a small, established BI/reporting team of around six people, sitting inside a large, established business that is in the process of moving its data infrastructure from on-premise SQL systems to a new AWS/Redshift environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain existing Cognos and Power BI reports, including fixing issues, adding new columns, and processing access requests.
- Test reports and front-end applications to confirm they continue to function correctly as data moves from on-premise SQL to AWS Redshift.
- Handle day-to-day support tickets from business users alongside longer-term modernisation project work.
- Meet with senior stakeholders, including directors, to gather reporting requirements and translate them into working solutions.
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, including where AI tools could be applied.
Experience Required
- Hands-on experience with Cognos reporting.
- Experience building and maintaining Power BI reports, including use of DAX and M/Power Query.
- Experience working with SQL-based data sources.
- Experience handling BAU report changes and support tickets from business users.
- AWS/Redshift experience is not essential, training will be provided.
Skills and Attributes
- Able to manage multiple concurrent pieces of work without losing track of detail.
- Able to adapt to changing priorities at short notice, such as urgent issues.
- Able to explain technical reporting concepts to non-technical stakeholders in plain language.
- Proactive in identifying improvements to reports and processes rather than only following instructions.
- Interested in developing skills in cloud data warehousing and AI-driven analytics.
Desirable
- Exposure to AWS, Redshift, or other cloud data warehouse technologies.
- Experience with forecasting, predictive modelling, or AI-assisted analytics.
- Experience working in a small, distributed tech or data team.
What's on Offer
- Fully remote role within the UK.
- Direct exposure to a live migration project, moving reporting from on-premise SQL to AWS/Redshift, with structured training provided.
- Regular contact with stakeholders up to director and business unit leader level.
- A mix of stable BAU reporting work and larger modernisation project work, rather than repetitive small changes only.
