We have an opportunity for a Bid Manager with a strong civil engineering background to lead and drive winning bids for major civil construction projects across Aotearoa New Zealand. You’ll be an integral part of our team, managing the complete process from opportunity pursuit through to contract award, and making sure we submit cost‑effective bids that genuinely meet our customers’ needs. You’ll be focused on activities that include: Leading our development of insight and positioning for selected opportunities well before the procurement process kicks off. Drive bid/no-bid decisions, bringing a balanced view of risk, deliverability and strategic fit. Translate hands-on civil delivery experience into practical delivery methodologies, staging plans and construction approaches with support from our construction subject matter experts. Work closely with multi‑disciplinary bid teams across estimating, engineering, , HSEQ, commercial and legal Work alongside estimating and commercial teams to ensure the technical solution aligns with the pricing strategy You will be someone who is not just a strong bid manager on paper, but who is technically sound and has delivered projects operationally. You’ll ideally have lived the construction lifecycle on site or in delivery roles, so you can read a set of documents and instinctively understand where the real risk, complexity and opportunity sit in a tender. This role will require the ability to travel as required around Auckland, Tauranga and Christchurch. This can be a clear pathway from site to strategy, ideal for someone moving from Project Manager or Construction Manager roles into work winning. Talk the same language as our project teams and design partners. Translate delivery reality into clear bid strategy and compelling tender responses. Challenge assumptions and spot issues early, because you’ve seen them play out on real jobs. To be successful you will also have: Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline (preferred) Minimum of 10 years’ relevant civil infrastructure experience, including hands‑on project delivery. Excellent writing, presenting, negotiation and leadership skills - you’re comfortable leading multi‑disciplinary bid and project teams. Sound commercial acumen including NZ forms of contract. In‑depth practical knowledge of procurement processes used by NZTA/Waka Kotahi and other large‑scale infrastructure clients. Strong understanding of construction approaches, suppliers, subcontractors, design partners and civil contractors in the New Zealand market. Responsibilities
The Bid Manager will lead and drive the end-to-end tender process for major civil infrastructure projects, from initial pursuit to contract award. They will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to develop competitive, risk-aware, and technically sound bid strategies.
