                        POSITION SUMMARY

                        Bike Bus Leaders guide and supervise groups of elementary school students in the Gordon Head and Tillicum areas as they ride to and from school along a set route. Leaders ensure safety, foster a fun and welcoming atmosphere, and promote active transportation.
                        This flexible, part-time role runs during the school year and is ideal for confident cyclists who enjoy working with children and building community. Leaders are typically scheduled for one predetermined weekday per week at a selected school Morning shifts typically run from 7:45–9:45 a.m., and afternoon shifts typically run from 2:00–4:00 p.m., depending on the school’s bell schedule. Shift times typically include some administrative duties for the leader.

                        Responsibilities
                        • Lead a weekly Bike Bus along a designated route to and from school, stopping at planned pick-up/drop-off points. Exact days are TBD)
                        • Welcome and supervise elementary school participants, ensuring a safe, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere throughout the ride.
                        • Collaborate with parent volunteers to keep the group together and manage road safety.
                        • Conduct a quick bike and helmet safety check before each ride.
                        • Share cycling safety tips with students in a fun, engaging way.
                        • Ride in all weather (rain or shine) during the school year.
                        • Communicate clearly with participants, volunteers, and Capital Bike staff via WhatsApp and other tools.
                        • Communicate with the Education Manager with weekly check-ins
                          To be eligible for hire, you must be able to commit to a minimum of 20 sessions over a season. Instructors are responsible for travel to and from course location, including transporting a ‘course kit’ that may include a first aid kit, small bike repair kit, and other items. Instructors are required to pick up and return course kits to the Capital Bike office.
