Description
The Bilingual Community Navigator (English/Khmer) supports limited-English-speaking Cambodians with accessing basic life needs, language support, and navigating community, government, and social services. They also provide in-person, telephone, and/or remote services, monitor client progress, communicate and follow up with referrals to providers, community resources, and supportive services. The Bilingual Community Navigator (English/Khmer) reports to the Service Navigation Program Manager. The ideal candidate will be skilled in working with the Southeast Asian community and has a deep understanding of the Cambodian community’s experiences and needs. They will be detail-orientated and be able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced and changing environment. They must be flexible with varying schedules and activities during the week. Position may require traveling within city limits. About Service Navigation: The objective is to support Southeast Asian adults and families in meeting basic needs, achieving stable housing, and gaining economic independence. Project activities include daily drop-in translation services for limited English-speaking Khmer, Lao, Thai, and Vietnamese clients to help navigate basic needs, health and life resources, and public benefits; assistance with housing applications and counseling; job placement and enrollment in vocational or accredited career programs; weekly English language classes to improve proficiency; and support with U.S. citizenship preparation, applications and testing. Screen and assess client social service needs, behavioral health, family concerns, and link clients to services and programs. Create action service plans to help clients meet their life needs. Help clients organize their records, make follow-up appointments, and apply for public benefits programs including Medi-Cal, SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), unemployment, housing, education, and other relevant needs. Coordinate with SEADC staff and team members to connect and refer clients to various internal and external programs and resources. Advocate for and provide translation for client needs and to access community programs and resources. Connect and follow up with referrals to community programs, government social service programs, and other service providers in San Francisco. Administrative & Project Support [25%] Maintain records of client attendance, files, forms and documentation, including the entry and weekly updating of client information and progress in databases. Attend agency meetings, team meetings, and one-on-one supervision meetings. Attend funder training, outreach events, and professional development training assigned by supervisor. Assist with organizing agency-wide events and activities. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. Qualifications Education: 2 years post-secondary education required* *Relevant experience may be substituted for required education Required Experience and Skills: Verbal fluency in Khmer 1 year of experience working in community programs Experience working with low-income and marginalized individuals Strong knowledge of services and programs for adult and families living in San Francisco Proven cultural competency and sensitivity to working with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds, especially the Khmer culture and community Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both one-on-one and in groups Self-starting, self-motivated, and able to work within a team and on multiple tasks to meet deadlines Demonstrate active listening, compassion, patience, reliability and professionals Strong organizational skills Excellent leadership and time management skills Must have adaptability to adopt new software and technologies and participate in the development of such systems by providing feedback Desired Skills and Experience: Written fluency in Khmer Adept at navigating different technologies: Proficiency with Microsoft 365 Office applications including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook Experience with data entry and CRM systems, preferably Salesforce Familiarity with project management platforms and online communications platforms such as Teams Additional Qualities and Requirements Passion for the organization's mission and values Participation in events outside typical work hours/office: annual staff strategic planning offsite, annual staff social day, annual gala Solution-oriented mindset Able to work outside of typical business hours as needed Able to travel locally as needed Pass fingerprinting background check and TB clearance before start date Applicants must already be authorized to work in the United States COVID-19 vaccination: We require all employees to be fully COVID vaccinated with the card to show proof of vaccination.
