BILINGUAL STEM (SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH) WORKSHOP PRESENTER

Workshop Presenters at Scientists in School are enthusiastic role-models who are looking to make a lasting positive impact on youth STEM interest and confidence. Our Presenters come from diverse backgrounds, yet all have one thing in common: a passion for sharing their expertise in science, technology, engineering, and/or math with the youth of today.
Our presenter-led workshops have been designed to seamlessly enhance curricula across Canada as they inspire scientific curiosity and confidence. We are seeking knowledgeable, engaging, and organized STEM experts to turn young learners into young scientists.
The STEM Workshop Presenter position is a part-time commitment with independent scheduling. Presenters will be trained in both English and French for each topic they present. All French workshops are presented online; English workshops may be online or onsite, based on the presenter’s location. Presenters earn $55 per completed online workshop and $85 for onsite.
Responsibilities:
· Deliver high quality, hands-on Scientists in School workshops in accordance with Scientists in School’s mandate.
· Participate in onboarding training and ongoing development opportunities.
· Communicate with teachers and/or community partners on a timely basis to schedule assigned workshops.
· Maintain an accurate record of workshop data through web-based application, adhering to organizational timelines.
· Submit expense reports to Scientists in School on a bi-weekly basis.
· Continually strive to enhance presentation skills.
· Participate in presenter organizational meetings.
· Share ideas with other presenters through consultation and team meetings.
· Adhere to safety guidelines as outlined in the Scientists in School Safety Manual.
· Interact in a positive and professional manner with teachers, school staff or others hosting workshops at their setting.
For onsite workshops:
· Maintain workshop materials kit in a safe and professional condition.
Qualifications:
· Science, engineering, or math degree preferred. BEd or ECE degree will be considered.
· Bilingual (French & English); must be comfortable presenting in both languages.
· Knowledge and experience in the field of science and/or engineering.
· Strong organizational and time management skills.
· Dynamic presentation style suitable for young people aged 4-13.
· Ability to express ideas clearly to children and adults.
· Excellent customer service skills.
· Proven ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
· Proficiency using webmail, internet applications, and videoconferencing hardware and software.
· Access to high bandwidth internet.
· Successful candidates will be required to obtain a satisfactory Police Records Check for the vulnerable sector.
For onsite workshops:
· Ability to move materials bins or equipment in the workshop topic kit, weighing as much as 22kg.
· Sufficient space to store workshop topic kit(s) and transport in vehicle.
· Valid driver’s license and use of vehicle imperative.
