This role is ideal for someone experienced in medical billing who thrives in a structured, process-driven environment and takes pride in accuracy, follow-through, and problem-solving. Scope of Work / Responsibilities As a Billing & Insurance Claims Virtual Assistant, you will be responsible for managing the full cycle of medical billing operations, ensuring timely and accurate claims processing, reimbursement, and account resolution. Core Responsibilities Input and maintain accurate patient demographic and insurance information Verify and enter the correct CPT and ICD-10 codes for billing Process and submit claims to various insurance companies Confirm the successful submission of prior-day electronic claims Generate and send billing statements to patients Post payments from patients and insurance companies Verify reimbursement accuracy and resolve underpayments or discrepancies Follow up on denied claims and manage the appeals process Submit corrected claims when necessary Stay up to date with insurance-specific policies (timely filing limits, claim requirements, etc.) Work directly with insurance companies regarding claim status and payment follow-ups Collect payments from patients with past-due balances Generate monthly billing statements for all patients Resolve patient billing inquiries via phone and email Complete miscellaneous administrative tasks as needed This role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and confidence in managing insurance follow-ups and collections. Experience Requirements Medical billing experience strongly preferred Prior experience working with insurance claims, denials, and appeals required A customer service background is a strong advantage Previous experience working remotely as a Virtual Assistant is preferred No medical degree or professional medical license required Basic requirements Must be proficient in speaking and writing English very clearly Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy Excellent follow-up and follow-through skills Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Ability to understand and strictly follow HIPAA confidentiality requirements Must be comfortable working with insurance companies Must have relevant work experience Be able to submit an NBI clearance and/or Local Police Clearance background check before onboarding [mandatory] Must be available for video meetings with your camera on (when needed) Technical requirements Device: Reliable laptop or desktop computer.
