ABOUT PD Founded in 1938, PD is a world-renowned design-to-build partner that crafts custom, future-forward brand solutions for some of the largest brands in retail. Summary Bindery Technicians are responsible for maintaining and operating bindery and other related machines. Most work is done by machinery so bindery operators must be able to work with cutting, folding, banding, and tapping machines. Bindery technicians are responsible for the overall performance of the machinery to produce quality products that meet client needs. Essential Duties/Responsibilities Examine job orders to define work direction Enter cutting positions in proper order into computer memory. Load sheets of printed or unprinted paper on the cutter bed. Jog and align sheets against the cutter guide in preparation for cutting. Activate computer to move sheets into first cut position. Activate double hand switches to begin cutting operation. Examine cut material for any imperfections and adjust computer program as needed. Remove material from the cutter bed and stack on pallets for shipment to the customer or next operation. Record job information on load tags and time sheets. Change knives and lubricate as recommended by manufacturers specifications. Run a Stahl folder with continuous feed and apply tape to material with a roller tape machine. Foster a culture that values family, innovation, collaboration, and empowerment. Follow all safety and workplace policies. Competencies and Skills Excellent communication and organizational skills. Proven ability to problem solve. Ability to read and understand written and verbal instructions, Job Jackets, press imposition and rule-up sheets. Must be mechanically inclined. Perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to demonstrate and apply PD’s workplace values. Flexibility to travel between multiple PD locations. Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment. Education/Certification Associate or trade School degree in graphic arts and or printing and prepress technology. Experience Minimum 1-3 years bindery experience Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Walking, sitting, bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting may be required throughout the workday. Stand and walk 95% of the time. Extensive lifting and bending actions. Lifting to 75lbs. Qualifications
