Description

A vacancy has arisen in the Blood Sciences department of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board for a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist (band 5) to join our Biochemistry team.
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic Biomedical Scientist with a flexible approach to work. The successful post holder will need to be able to rotate across all sites in ABUHB, this includes the Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport, Nevill Hall Hospital, Abergavenny and the new Grange University Hospital, Cwmbran. The 24/7 service is provided at the Grange University Hospital.
The laboratories at all sites of ABUHB are equipped with the new Siemens Atellica automation. The Siemens solution was put into operation mid-July 2021 across all sites. Most of the sample processing is completed at the Grange University Hospital which includes both critical and routine samples. We process approximately 5000 samples a day across ABUHB (approximate 4000 samples in GUH).
The busy Special Chemistry department, based at the Grange University Hospital, provides a wide repertoire of specialist investigations.
If your values align with our Pathology vision below, then this is the challenging role for you:
Delivering a leading, people centred service which is innovative, dynamic, and continually improving.
The post is a full-time permanent role, covering 37.5 hours over a 7-day working week and will be mainly based at the Grange University Hospital. Participation in the out of hours service will be an essential requirement, once deemed competent in all relevant areas. The OOH service is provided over 24/7, 365 days with a shift pattern derived through e-roster.
You will be HCPC registered and have experience working in a NHS laboratory. You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to CPD, have excellent interpersonal and time-management skills, be committed to service excellence and be keen on supporting development of Pathology services within Southeast Wales.
The department would consider an individual with sufficient NHS laboratory experience who is working towards their HCPC registration for a trainee post to be completed within two years from the start of this appointment.
Please note that the salary for a Trainee Biomedical Scientist will be as per AFC Annex 21.
