JOB DESCRIPTION
Norgen Biotek is a leading Canadian biotechnology company focusing on sample preparation for research and diagnostic applications. Established in the Niagara Region in 1998, Norgen is currently looking for a bioinformatician to join our NGS Research Services team.
As a member of our bioinformatics team, the incumbent will create and implement bioinformatics workflows on various NGS data specifically orientated towards a suite of researchers and labs to best suit their research needs and applications. The position will also contribute to designing, implementing, and reporting quality control and quality assurance processes from NGS output to ensure clinically robust reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
· 4-year (or higher) Degree in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics or a related field
· Experience working in a Linux/UNIX operating system environment and facility with command-line interface
· Strong understanding of various programming languages, including Python, R, Bash, Java and Perl.
· Experience working with NGS data and its gold standard tools and bioinformatics pipelines.
· Knowledgeable in statistical techniques/the analysis of large data sets with respect to figure generation, regression models, multi-dimensional analyses, etc.
· (Desirable) Comfortable with Operating Systems Development including handling of multi-threading, multi-core, and multi-processing hardware

· Design, create, and implement new pipelines and tools to process, analyze, and validate data based on customer and internal R&D requirements.
· Write clean, maintainable code and documentation for all bioinformatics related tasks.
· Research, test and implement new statistical or machine learning techniques to enhance data insights from the present pipelines.
· Analyze and identify results from a variety of data types including RNA, DNA and metagenomic data that is generated in house.
· Develop scripts to visualize the results from bioinformatics analysis.
· Identify logical errors in code and methodology related to bioinformatics pipelines.
· Follow standard operating procedures (SOP) involving bioinformatics analysis, customer data reports, and internal record keeping related to R&D.
· Provide technical support to customers.
· Other duties and responsibilities as required
