CLASSIFICATION MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related life science field.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Organization, maintenance and breeding of mice for experimental cohorts (husbandry, setting up mating cages, weaning pups, sampling, monitoring health and other concerns), genomic DNA isolation, genotyping of mice by PCR and Southern blot analysis, shipment of mice and samples to collaborators at other institutions, and oversight and maintenance of meticulous records of the experimental cohorts.
Participate in research within the lab, providing technical assistance to ongoing projects, making detailed observations, analyzing and interpreting results. The specific experiments and techniques utilized by the biological scientist will change according to the ongoing discoveries and goals of the research team but may include characterization of behavioral and molecular phenotypes in transgenic mice, tissue collection for DNA, RNA, protein, and histological analysis including FISH, immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence.
Work with lab personnel to oversee lab equipment use and maintenance, tracking and ordering of laboratory supplies, work to ensure biosafety and environmental health compliance, general lab upkeep.
Participate and present their work at lab meetings and to respond to animal facility technicians to promptly resolve reported problems.
