What You’ll Do
- Supporting a team of biology and environmental professionals working on a wide range of interesting, innovative applied biology and environmental consulting projects
- Assisting with baseline studies of freshwater aquatic, terrestrial, and marine environments
- Assisting with field surveys and collecting field data on fish, aquatic habitat, vegetation, wildlife, and terrestrial habitat following standard protocols and best practices
- Collecting water, sediment, benthic invertebrate, and other types of environmental or biological samples according to established sampling plans and methodologies
- Field data input, QA/QC, analysis, and mapping
- Assisting with preparing permit applications and development of environmental management measures
- Conducting environmental monitoring of construction projects
- Conducting background research and literature reviews
- Helping to prepare technical reports, memos, and other project deliverables
What You’ll Bring

- Current enrolment in a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Technology, or Diploma program in biology, environmental science, fish and wildlife management, ecological restoration, environmental technology, forestry, geography, or similar
- Enrolment in a formal co-op program is preferred
- Field skills and training in environmental methods such as fish and wildlife inventory and salvage, habitat assessments, water quality monitoring, and/or construction environmental monitoring
- Strong organizational, technical, and computer skills
- Experience with mapping and analyzing data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is an asset
- You are passionate about building a career in applied biology, natural resources management, or a similar environmental field
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and be able to work with team members in a multi-disciplinary environment
- A desire to learn new skills and an eagerness to grow within your role
- A valid driver’s license (in good standing) is mandatory
- Must be physically able to conduct field visits commensurate with project work. This may include handling and operation of equipment, travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, and outdoor site visits in all weather conditions on uneven/varying ground terrain.
