Description Job Title: Biomedical Engineering Director Reports to: Chief Executive Officer Job Summary: Provides and documents preventive, predictive, metered, interval-based and corrective maintenance on biomedical equipment. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities. Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: Performs biomedical equipment repairs and tests on all new and repaired equipment prior to being put into service. All repairs and tests shall be documented. Performs scheduled and unscheduled inspections, maintenance and electrical safety tests of biomedical equipment to maintain code compliance. Responsible for documenting the results of all inspections, maintenance and tests. Orders supplies according to established procedures. Assists in training of all hospital staff in the safe use of biomedical equipment. Assists in maintaining the records of all equipment handled by the Biomedical Engineering Department. Provides technical support on new and replaced biomedical equipment. Responsible for keeping current on new developments in biomedical equipment and systems. Participates in performance improvement and information management programs. Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify each patient’s age-specific needs to promote a safe environment needed by the patient group. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality. Professional Requirements: Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean. Completes annual education requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time. Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly. Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion. Attends annual review and department in-services, as scheduled. Attends staff meetings, as required. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Requirements Regulatory Requirements: · Associate of Science degree from an accredited institution (Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician [CBET) or 2 years vocational school training. · Two to three (2-3) years related experience. Language Skills: · Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. · Additional languages preferred. Skills: · Basic computer knowledge. · Knowledge of medical equipment. Physical Demands: · Normal hospital environment. Occasional exposure to changes in temperature in computer room. Close eye work, hearing in normal range for telephone. Use of PC, CRT, printer, calculator, and various types of test equipment. Some lifting required. Fine motor skills needed for PC and medical equipment repair.
