JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Biomedical Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and calibration of medical equipment, ensuring that all devices operate safely and efficiently. This role requires a strong mechanical knowledge and the ability to work with various types of equipment in a healthcare environment.

EDUCATION

  • Completion of the DOD Biomedical Equipment Technician program, OR an Associate degree in Biomedical Electronics Technology, OR an Associate degree in Electronics Technology
  • Certification as a Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET).

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in the biomedical field, performing preventive maintenance and repairs on various types of medical equipment. 
  • Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design, characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems. 
  • Knowledge of and skill in applying a comprehensive range of principles, concepts, and practices concerning medical equipment and service operations with complicated technical requirements. 
  • Knowledge of the state of the art in medical technology, including scientific advances, network protocols, and vendor changes. 
  • Knowledge sufficient to identify and resolve difficult issues and problems such as determining equipment, facility, or service deficiencies. 
  • Knowledge of the principles of electronic circuits, functions of electronic tubes and transistors, including X-ray tubes, and the relationships between electrical and electronic circuitry, as well as the interrelationship of chemical, radiation, hydraulic, pneumatic, vacuum, or gas components of a piece of equipment or a system. 
  • Knowledge of the principles and theories governing the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment to diagnose malfunctions, and test such electrical equipment as sterilizers, suction apparatus, and dental units. 
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems including grips, locks, stop and release mechanisms, and the ability to determine when properly adjusted with no leaks. 
  • Skill in the use of electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators. 
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment such as ohmmeters and test meters; skill in the use of such equipment as micrometers and calipers to detect wear and misalignment of gears, cams, valves, and other mechanical parts; and the ability to use pressure gauges when working on hydraulic systems. 
  • Ability to interpret and apply specifications, regulations, policy statements, and other similar guideline material. 
  • Previous United States military service experience is a HUGE PLUS.
  • A valid driver’s license to operate stand-up and 4-6K forklifts. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to work a light to moderate physical effort. Requirements include walking, standing, reaching, bending, and moving items. May require lifting and carrying weight over 45 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to read, interpret and apply reference material such as regulations, manuals, catalogs, records, orders, etc. to accomplish and resolve problems; the ability to read and speak the English language, correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to prepare and edit written correspondence, reports, and transcribed material; be proficient in US standard office equipment, such as computers, copiers, fax machines, telephone systems and office automation systems, to perform a substantial range of warehouse support; and the knowledge of basic ethical principles, telephone etiquette, excellent communications and customer service skills and ability.
Responsibilities
  •  Support a broad range of biomedical equipment throughout the equipment lifecycle, including inspections, calibrations, preventive maintenance, and repairs on all medical/dental/scientific equipment, surgical instruments, and related material.  
  • Test voltage tolerances, amperage, power supplies, wave shape, frequency resonance, deflection time, decay curve, gain, balance, and signal sensitivity against prescribed tolerances and specifications using test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment.  
  • Review all associated maintenance, calibration, and repair documentation. 
  • Perform end-of-life equipment tasks, including decommissioning, data sanitization, technical evaluation for condition prior to disposal, and strategic planning for replacement in coordination with clinical services. 
  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on all medical/dental/scientific equipment, surgical instruments, and related material.  
  • Coordinate and work effectively with other departments to prepare equipment for rapid, worldwide deployment in humanitarian, disaster relief, and military contingency operations. 
  • Perform specific tasks that include but are not limited to incoming inspections, regular and unscheduled maintenance, repair, and planning for end-of-life replacement in conjunction with forward positioned materiel and asset deployment schedules. 
  • Utilize common test equipment, including, but not limited to, patient simulators, pulse generators, network analyzers, test phantoms, electrical safety analyzers, oscilloscopes, and multimeters. 
  • Load Operating Systems (OS) and clinical application software as needed. 
  • Document all work performed in a computerized maintenance management system and maintain maintenance logs for each piece of equipment. 
  • Ensure maintenance documentation meets regulatory requirements, Office of Healthcare Technology Management (HTM) guidelines, and other applicable standards. 
  • Investigate, remediate, and document Repairable Medical Device (RMD) recalls and safety alerts within established timeframes. 
  • Participate in local safety improvement processes such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and safety work groups. 
  • Identify hazards during routine job performance and take corrective action. 
  • Ensure all requirements, tests, and certifications have been performed and properly documented. 
  • Maintain functional knowledge of relevant safety codes and standards of regulatory bodies, including, but not limited to, The Joint Commission (TJC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). 
  • Review SOPs and maintenance checklists for medical equipment maintenance to ensure compliance with relevant safety codes, standards, and manufacturer literature. 
  • Performs related work as assigned.
