Biophysics Summer Intern About Luna Labs Luna Labs is a product development company working with leading organizations and key government agencies to create unique solutions for complex challenges in defense, industrial, and healthcare markets. We leverage small business agility and large business capabilities to accelerate breakthrough solutions from concept to early-stage growth. Working with a robust global network of manufacturers, suppliers, licensees, and distributors, Luna Labs develops everything from small-scale prototypes to market-ready products.   The Opportunity  The Biophysics Group offers a competitive summer internship program for students seeking hands-on experience in applying mechatronics design to biological, human interfacing systems. This opportunity will assist with researching and developing wearable technologies to prevent and monitor for injury and illness. Selected interns will contribute to active research projects across multiple focus areas while gaining meaningful exposure to a professional lab environment. The program runs June 1 – August 15, with interns expected to be available Monday through Friday during core business hours of 9AM – 5PM. By the end of the program, interns will have developed new technical skills, contributed to ongoing R&D initiatives, and completed a final research presentation showcasing their work.   Primary Responsibilities: * Accurately logging and allocating time in time tracking system * Effectively support multiple research projects * Able to provide onsite support at least 80% of the time during a 40hr work week * Demonstrated independence within 30-days of internship * Maintain assigned lab research documentation (i.e. notebook, OneNote…etc.) * Prepare and present final research summary Requirements – Education/Experience/Skills:  * Rising Junior with STEM focus; Mechanical, Electrical, or Biomedical Engineering preferred * Research experience preferred * Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team setting * Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 * U.S. Citizenship required due to government contracting regulations Work Environment: * Duties are primarily completed onsite from our Charlottesville facility * Occasional travel to client sites, conferences, and related events may be required. * This role involves working in a laboratory environment and interacting with technical staff. * Ability to lift and carry up to 100lbs may be required.
