Job Summary
The Center for Biostatistics in AIDS Research (CBAR), an organization within the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, is responsible for the design, monitoring and statistical analysis of clinical trials and observational studies for several major national and international NIH‐funded clinical research networks. CBAR employs over 100 statisticians and epidemiologists including Harvard faculty, research scientists, and staff. Investigators within CBAR have provided statistical leadership and support for clinical research networks for more than 30 years. Currently this includes infectious disease networks such as: the Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Groups (ACTG), the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Network (IMPAACT), and the Pediatric HIV/AIDS Cohort Study (PHACS). Results from studies have helped to establish the paradigm for the treatment and prevention of HIV and other infectious diseases, and contributed to international treatment and prevention guidelines. CBAR is looking to hire a Biostatistician I to act as a protocol statistician. The Biostatistician I position is suitable for a new graduate with a Master’s degree in biostatistics or a related field with limited clinical trials work experience. CBAR provides a strong program for growth and professional development for Master’s‐level Biostatisticians including a defined career path and opportunities for continuing education and attendance of professional meetings.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
This position will collaborate with medical researchers, senior statisticians and epidemiologists on national and international infectious diseases clinical trials and observational studies. The primary focus initially will be on studies undertaken by the AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG). Duties include, but are not limited to, clinical trial and observational study review; data collection forms design and review; stratification/randomization of studies; statistical programming; data analysis and monitoring; and report writing under the mentorship and supervision of senior staff. This position will also serve on internal CBAR committees.

PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term end date of November 30, 2027, with strong likelihood of extension. The primary work location for this position is Boston, MA and in order to be on Harvard payroll, you must reside in one of the following states – MA, NH, RI, ME, CT, VT, NY, MD, or CA. We are also working primarily remotely at this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Until our return to campus, this interview process and position will be conducted virtually – including virtual interviews, remote onboarding, and remote work. The remote nature of this position is only temporary. Local, on-campus work will be required as a condition of continued employment once the School and this role return to an operational status that supports it. The Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health will support flexible work schedules upon this return, subject to individual departments’ business needs.

Basic Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, or a closely related field required
• 3+ years of related experience required
• Experience with statistical software (such as SAS, Stata, etc.) required

Additional Qualifications and Skills

The following job-specific skills and competencies are preferred:

• Two-year MA/MS program strongly preferred
• Professional experience and/or education in statistical analysis or clinical or biological data, including failure time and categorical data
• Experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Experience with SAS, or strong background in other relevant packages (e.g., STATA, S-PLUS or R)
• Experience working within a collaborative research team
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
