JOB SUMMARY

As a member of the Praxis AI Group, the Biostatistician provides data analysis assistance to the Clinical Research and Best Practice Implementation team and other clinical initiatives within the Praxis network. A major area of focus is assisting with analyses using data from the Rick Hansen Spinal Cord Injury Registry (RHSCIR). This is position is a full-time 1 year term.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

Support the design, implementation and management of statistical analysis for multi-centre research projects;
Using statistical expertise, determine the identification of relevant content for annual reporting and other special research studies in conjunction with members of the clinical and research groups;
Working with researchers and other members of the Data Services Group to create the analysis plan for a study, identifying and qualifying all data sources required for the study (internal and external) and ensuring all appropriate data elements, inclusion/exclusion and other data handling issues are well defined and clearly articulated for execution;
Conducting integrative analyses on the RHSCIR data set and other related clinical study and healthcare administration databases as required;
Writes and executes computer analyses programs as required for the execution of analysis plans;
Provides advice regarding appropriate analytic approaches on an ad hoc basis to the internal research and clinical operations group and external partners;
Produces and disseminates analytic reports;
Develops and maintains a detailed knowledge of Praxis’ data holdings [and related data held by other organizations. e.g. Canadian Institute of Health Information (CIHI), other SCI registries].
Maintains up-to-date knowledge about analytical techniques; health services and population health research; and other relevant information to our stakeholders as required.
Participates on Praxis project teams by working collaboratively with other Praxis team members (i.e. provides regular updates on activities), ensuring timely notification of issues or problems, and maintaining professionalism in collecting feedback both from internal and external project team members;
Represent Praxis externally as required
Participates in quality control and quality assurance activities as related to data management and analysis.
Working with members of the SCI research community nationally and international academic and healthcare organizations to ensure data collected by RHSCIR and Praxis is utilized to its full extent to identify, validate and translate best practices in the care and treatment of persons with SCI
Perform other duties assigned within the scope of this role.

QUALIFICATIONS

Post-graduate degree in Biostatistics, Statistics or a related field.
Minimum of two years’ experience in research analysis (ideally clinical research).
Experience in the manipulation and analysis of statistical data from administrative health or research databases.
Strong ability to analyze and interpret data; determine implications and provide recommendations.
Strong computing skills (especially using SAS, R and SPSS) would be an advantage
Proficiency with MS Office Suite, including a strong command of Excel.
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
Experience with MS SharePoint would be an asset.
Programming experience using Oracle/SQL Server would be an asset.
Proficiency with other statistical programming languages such as R, SPSS and Stata would be an asset.
An equivalent combination of education, experience and skills/behaviours will be considered.
