Position Summary The Business Unit Manager (BUM) will play a critical role in driving the growth and success of our specialty pharmaceutical products in the Philippines, requiring a strategic and results-oriented leader with significant experience in marketing and sales. This position entails developing and executing brand strategies that align with market demands and organizational goals while exhibiting strong leadership to create a vision, lead change, and manage a high-performing team. The BUM will oversee the marketing and field sales plan, including the creation of sales tools, coordination with sales training, and execution of sales meetings, ensuring that objectives are met. Additionally, the manager will collaborate extensively across national, regional and global teams to align strategies and implement tactical plans, achieving sales, profitability, and market share targets for their franchises. Key Responsibilities Strategic Responsibilities Brand Strategy Development: Create and implement comprehensive brand plans tailored to the Philippine market, ensuring alignment with Merck’s vision and effective life cycle management of specialty products. Product Launch Strategies: Develop and implement strategies for successful product launches and brand management, optimizing revenue generation and market positioning. (Product launch, line extension, etc) P&L Responsibility: Manage the Profit and Loss (P&L) for the Business Unit, including defining and approving commercial terms for specialty products. Tactical Responsibilities Sales Program Implementation: Design and execute innovative sales programs aimed at achieving business objectives, ensuring clear communication of initiatives to the sales team and stakeholders. Marketing and Sales Coordination: Lead the planning and coordination of marketing and sales efforts to meet and exceed business targets, focusing on high specialty areas. Resource Planning: Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and policy development to ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness. Forecast Accuracy: Ensure precise business forecasting and represent the Business Unit in the Integrated Business Planning (IBP) process. Team Leadership and Development Leadership and Team Management: Foster a high-performance culture by providing strong leadership, mentoring, and development opportunities for team members. Team Management: Oversee operations, set objectives, and train and develop team members, conducting performance evaluations and determining reward outcomes. Team Collaboration: Guide and influence colleagues across various departments and external stakeholders to achieve strategic goals. Capabilities and Insights Market Insights: Lead a team to gather and analyze market intelligence, identifying opportunities and addressing challenges in the specialty pharmaceutical landscape. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with national and global teams to align strategies and execute tactical plans, achieving sales, profitability, and market share goals. Advisory Services: Provide valuable insights and advisory services to support decision-making processes. Role Definition: Contribute to defining roles and responsibilities and participate in overall business and financial planning processes. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field. Experience: At least 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, with significant managerial responsibilities. Proven leadership in commercial marketing and field sales management, particularly in high specialty areas. Experience managing key account managers and distributors effectively. Demonstrated success in launching new products and driving brand/franchise growth. Strong understanding of regulatory requirements affecting marketing and sales strategies. Skills and Competencies: Exceptional leadership and team management capabilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective influence and negotiation. Ability to mentor and develop team members to achieve their potential. Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with a results-oriented mindset.
