Job Details Job Location: Western Industries Plastic Products - Winfield, KS 67156 Job Shift: 8 Hour - Day Shift The Blow Mold Process Engineer will learn to operate and maintain large-part blow molding machines through hands-on training. Primary responsibilities include starting up machines, ensuring proper operation and performance throughout the day-to-day activities. As skills develop, responsibilities will expand to include troubleshooting, process improvements, and equipment modifications to enhance productivity and quality. This role ensures production runs meet customer requirements, safety standards, and company performance goals while supporting continuous improvement initiatives. Summary of Job Duties The Blow Mold Process Engineer provides process engineering expertise and leadership in the following areas: Identify and implement improvements in manufacturing processes. Recommend and execute solutions related to environmental, electrical, mechanical, production, safety, tooling, and quality control. Prepare plans, drawings, and vendor specifications for special equipment. Participate in equipment selection and coordinate installation of assigned projects. Design and develop tools, supervise tool drawings, and investigate tooling issues. Coordinate spare part needs with plant leadership. Conduct experiments and tests to improve manufacturing processes. Coordinate activities with outside contractors as needed. Support product design changes and process optimization initiatives (including Kaizen events, Design of Experiments and capacity utilization studies). Ensure production jobs run to cycle specifications for maximum yield. Analyze molding defects, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions. Suggest tooling or machine improvements to reduce scrap, waste, and downtime. Inspect tooling, machines, and auxiliary equipment and submit work orders as needed. Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations (EPA, MSDS, Lockout/Tagout, etc.). Work Environment This job will be performed in both office and production settings, with exposure to varying weather conditions and operating in a manufacturing environment that is non-climate controlled. Moderate to loud noise levels that require associates to wear hearing protection. This position may require work above or below ground level and in confined spaces. This position will routinely work on and around industrial equipment and systems including, blow molding machinery, CNC machinery, motors, motor control centers, emergency generators, water coolers, air compressors, grinders, hand tools, hydraulics, and pneumatics. Physical Demands Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, grip/grasping, twisting, reaching above the head, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Ability to use tools and other industrial equipment. Ability to wear all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Tuition Reimbursement Qualifications Required Skills Comprehensive knowledge of administrative and management skills, including planning, organizing, coordinating, and controlling processes. Knowledge of mechanical and electrical production equipment. Familiarity with computerized systems and process flow techniques. Understanding of federal, state, and local health, environmental, and safety regulations. Proficiency in AutoCAD. Education and Experience Bachelor’s degree in an engineering field preferred. 5 years of experience in blow molding or a related field. Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma (Green or Black Belt) certification a plus. Experience in project management and/or supervisory roles.
