Description
Job Summary: The Battery Management System (BMS) Design & Development Engineer is responsible for the detailed design, development, integration, and support of BMS hardware, Software (SW) and associated algorithms for advanced energy storage applications. This role focuses on hands-on electrical design, hardware bring-up, bench testing, and system-level debug of lithium-ion battery packs to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation. This role will work closely with cross-functional teams including electrical hardware, embedded software, cell engineering, and test engineering, to deliver robust and scalable BMS solutions across the product lifecycle, from concept and schematic design through validation testing and production release.   Responsibilities: * Design and support BMS hardware including sensing, protection, control, and interface circuitry. * Develop, review, and release electrical schematics, component selections, and electrical interfaces for battery packs. * Support Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout reviews, hardware bring-up, debug, and rework activities. * Perform bench-level debugging and root-cause analysis of BMS hardware and interface issues. * Support integration of BMS hardware with battery cells, contactors, sensors, and pack-level components. * Execute BMS hardware validation including functional verification, protection feature testing, and fault-injection testing. * Develop and execute electrical and functional test plans to verify BMS performance. * Support signal integrity, power integrity, and noise immunity evaluations. * Assist with environmental, endurance, abuse, and fault-case testing as required. * Troubleshoot failed battery packs and implement corrective actions with validation testing. * Develop and support battery and control models using MATLAB/Simulink. * Assist with State of Charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH), and State of Power (SOP) algorithm development, tuning, and validation. * Correlate model predictions with laboratory, system, and field test data. * Debug interfaces between embedded software and BMS hardware (Analog to Digital Converter (ADC), Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI), Inter-Integrated Circuit (I2C), Control Area Network (CAN), General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO)). * Support embedded software teams during hardware bring-up and system debug activities. * Create and maintain technical documentation including schematics, design notes, test procedures, and validation reports. * Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support BMS development, integration, and issue resolution. * Support production, manufacturing, and field issue investigations when required. * Adhere to federal and state regulations. * Adhere to all company policies, processes, and procedures. * Performs other duties as requested, directed, or assigned. * Predictable and reliable attendance. Position Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent degree required. * Minimum of three (3) years of engineering experience in BMS, battery systems, embedded hardware, or power electronics, or equivalent experience required. * Hands-on experience with schematic design, hardware bring-up, and electrical debugging required. * Experience working with high- and low-voltage battery systems and communication interfaces required. * Experience with SOC estimation methods such as Coulomb counting, Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) correlation, or basic observer-based techniques preferred. * Exposure to BMS validation testing, fault-case analysis, or safety mechanism verification preferred. * Familiarity with PCB design tools such as Altium, KiCad, or equivalent preferred. * Experience in automotive, energy storage, or electrification applications preferred. * Experience supporting production release and field issue resolution preferred. * Proficiency with lab equipment including Digital Multimeters (DMMs), oscilloscopes, power supplies, and electronic loads. * Familiarity with lithium-ion battery fundamentals and battery pack architectures. * Familiarity with using MATLAB/Simulink for modeling, algorithm development, or data analysis. * Understanding of embedded interfaces such as CAN, SPI, I2C, Universal Asynchronous Receiver-Transmitter (UART), and ADCs. * Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). * Ability to travel and work flexible hours as needed (
