Total public member: 14 Method of Appointment: Appointed by Mayor, confirmed by Council Length of Appointment: 3 years Residency: DC Residency Required Paid board: No (all roles are voluntary) Description: The Board shall regulate the practice of medicine, the practice by anesthesiologists assistants with the advice of the Advisory Committee on Anesthesiologist Assistants, the practice of medical radiation technology with the advice of the Advisory Committee on Medical Radiation Technologists, the practice by physician assistants, the practice by surgical assistants with the advice of the Advisory Committee on Surgical Assistants, the practice by physicians-in-training, the practice by trauma technologists with the advice of the Advisory Committee on Trauma Technologists, the practice of athletic training with the advice of the Advisory Committee on Athletic Trainers, and the practices of certified professional midwifery and doulas with the advice of the Advisory Committee on Maternal Care Professionals. The Board shall also regulate the practice of acupuncture and the practice of naturopathic medicine until the Board of Integrative Healthcare commences operations pursuant to ง 3-1202.24. Commission membership: 14 public members: - 9 physicians - 2 physician assistants - 3 consumer members Qualifications: The professional members must be licensed to practice in the District. Each professional member shall have been engaged in the practice for at least 3 years preceding appointment. The consumer member shall be at least 18 years old, shall not be a health professional or in training to become a health professional, and shall not have a household member who is a health professional or is in training to become a health professional.
