The Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board is a quasi-judicial tribunal established under The Saskatchewan Employment Act which is charged with the responsibility to hear and adjudicate disputes that arise under that Act and other related legislation. The Board discharges this responsibility principally through public hearings and its written decisions.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

The Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board is seeking a proactive, results-oriented and innovative professional to join their team as the Board Officer. This unique position involves managing the Saskatchewan Labour Relations Board’s operations and employment relationship between employees, employers and unions within the entirety of the Province.

Responsibilities
  • Accepting, reviewing, evaluating, and prioritizing Board matters to ensure that they are processed correctly in a timely, appropriate manner consistent with policies and practices;
  • Ensuring votes are conducted as ordered by Board on certification, rescission, successorship and amendment applications;
  • Performing duties in support of statutory requirements set out in multiple Parts of The Saskatchewan Employment Act and associated Regulations;
  • Explaining legislation, board practice, and policy administered by Board and to employers, trade unions and employees to ensure that Board’s processes and decisions are accessible, transparent and open to scrutiny;
  • Interviewing and conferencing with parties and legal counsel in camera or publically to attempt to resolve matters or issues prior to formal Board intervention.
  • Investigating matters for the Board to ensure the Board has all the relevant information and that the facts are clear and the factors are compliant with legislation/Board requirements;
  • Conducting research on previous Board and Court decisions, legislation and industry standards; and
  • Regularly communicating with Unions, Employers, and Employees to attempt to resolve applications/problems regarding labour disputes in which they have competing interests.
