CHEF – BOARDING HOUSE | UPPINGHAM SCHOOL, RUTLAND

Location: Uppingham, LE15 9QE
Salary: £21,321 per annum (term-time only, working 33 weeks per year)
Hours: Full-time, 41.5 hours per week, 5 days over 7 (including some weekends)
Looking for a chef role that delivers real work-life balance and room to grow? This is it.
Aramark UK is recruiting a skilled, enthusiastic Chef to run the day-to-day kitchen operations for one of the 15 boarding houses at Uppingham School, a prestigious independent school in Rutland. You’ll work closely with our Group Executive Chef to deliver high-quality, nutritious food while maintaining the highest standards of hygiene, service, and presentation.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a structured, term-time only role — giving you regular time off during school holidays, without stepping away from your culinary career.

Responsibilities

YOUR ROLE – A DAY IN THE LIFE:

  • Lead kitchen operations within a boarding house, serving 75–80 students daily across breakfast, lunch, and dinner
  • Prepare, cook, and present meals to a consistently high standard, ensuring excellent service at all times
  • Manage ordering, stock control, and deliveries, ensuring food safety and compliance with regulations
  • Support budget control, including P&L management and cost-efficiency practices
  • Maintain high levels of cleanliness and hygiene through scheduled daily and weekly deep cleans
  • Train, guide, and support a small team to maintain consistent performance and standards
  • Work a variety of shifts including some weekend coverage

YOU’LL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE:

  • The legal right to work in the UK and have lived here for the last 5 years (required for enhanced DBS and vetting)
  • A recognised culinary qualification or solid experience in a similar chef role
  • A strong track record of catering for large numbers while creating a high-quality, personal dining experience
  • A hands-on, proactive approach with a keen eye for detail
  • Excellent people skills – you’re confident, approachable, and able to lead and inspire your team
