Description POSITION: Full Time, Non-Exempt LOCATION: Naval Base Point Loma, CA PAY RANGE: $45.62 per hour plus $7.50 (Health & Wellness through the Union) RELOCATION: No relocation offered for this position We are currently seeking to hire a Vessel Captain aboard the Range Support Craft 4 (RSC-4) to be responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of assigned vessels. This position requires a strong understanding of maritime operations, navigation, safety standards, and the ability to lead and communicate effectively with both government stakeholders and internal teams. The RSC-4 is a 114-foot aluminum vessel providing fleet training support to the Southern California Tactical Training Range (SCTTR) in the San Clemente Island Range Complex (SCIRC) W-291 area. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Reports to Port Captain. Responsible for the day-to-day operation and maintenance of an assigned vessel. Ensures that the vessel crew has adequate supplies and training to safely execute tasking. Plans voyage and operates vessel in a safe manner in accordance with USCG requirements. Ensures that all vessel operations are compliant with Federal, State, and local regulations. Accurately completes required daily logs. Work Conditions: Will work ashore and afloat on the RSC vessels. Overtime is required. Vessels may stay out at sea and not return to port multiple days in a row (occurs frequently). Operations are conducted in a variety of weather conditions and sea states. Normal shipboard physical activity is required. Requirements Education/Experience: High School diploma or equivalent is required. A minimum of five (5) years of prior maritime industry experience working as a Captain of a 500GT vessel (to include managing personnel and operational schedules); ten (10) years of such experience is preferred. Must have demonstrable knowledge of preventive/corrective maintenance plans. Previous experience on DoD contract vessels. USCG License 500GT Master Upon Near Coastal Waters with valid medical certificate is required. Current Driver’s License required; must be able to be insured through company’s vehicle insurance policy while driving work/government/rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of employment. All candidates will be required to pass background screening to include SSN, Driver Record, and Criminal Background Investigation. Skills: Proven leadership in managing crew, operational timelines, and mission success. Proficiency in electronic navigation systems (ECDIS, radar, GPS), maintenance logs, and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments. Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting and mission coordination. Additional Requirements: U.S. Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET DoD Security Clearance. Valid state driver’s license; must qualify under company’s vehicle insurance policy. Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
