JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled Mechanic to join our team. Here at Bath Narrowboats, the collective engineering team is responsible for ensuring that all our narrow daybooks, electric boats, narrowboat & wide beam holiday hire boats are maintained to the best possible condition whilst in operation during the whole year.
As a Boat Mechanic technician, you will work with engineers, mechanics and boat operatives. You will be responsible for: maintaining the high standards established for fleet maintenance and inspection; following handover procedures; and keeping the general safety, cleanliness, security and customer care standards at both wharf bases The role requires you to be available for ‘call outs’ to attend the hire fleet in the event of a breakdown during our hire operation times, which includes some evenings and weekends as part of a rota.
You should have the ability to diagnose and resolve diesel engine, electrical and plumbing problems. These skills would be used daily with our wide ranging hire fleet , boat fit outs and repairs for privately owned boats.
A positive, customer facing, ‘can do’ attitude is crucial to this role when conducting boat handovers and greeting customers, dealing with sensitive issues or minor disputes, as well as when carrying out boat repairs and servicing for private boat owners.

SKILLS

  • Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools and equipment for troubleshooting mechanical issues including electrical understanding.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle systems, including engines, transmissions and electrical systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically under pressure.
  • Attention to detail with a focus on delivering high-quality workmanship.
  • Good communication skills for effectively interacting with team members and customers.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous experience as a mechanic or in a related field is preferred but not essential; relevant qualifications will be considered an advantage. Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough inspections of boats to identify issues and determine necessary repairs.
