SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Boilermaker/Welder Apprentice position must complete responsibilities delegated by the service manager that include the service and repair of boilers, burners and related accessories. This effort involves regular contact with the end users, contractors, Authorized Inspectors and also occasionally with specifying engineers who specify our equipment.
Our expectation is for the Boilermaker to be performing pressure vessel repairs, general repair of boilers, estimating service work, keeping the scheduler of the work informed of daily work progress, custodian of company truck, tools, equipment and supplies and the monitoring of his own billings, costs and inventory. An inside administrative person provides office support for this position.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Completed High School diploma or equivalent
  • Two years of technical school, community college or trade school
  • One year of related experience in similar industry.
  • Computer knowledge a plus.
  • Pipefitting experience is a plus.
Responsibilities

  • Will complete service reports on the job and turn in to the office on the next time in but no later than the following Monday morning. All reports are to be signed by the customer before leaving the job site.
  • Must be willing to attend factory training for boiler pressure vessel welders as the schedule permits. Will keep sales personnel informed of ongoing service and problems with new and existing projects.
  • In general, will do what it takes to make our company successful with the product lines we represent and the customers we serve. It is expected that this service effort will complement and accordingly increase the sales of our boiler product lines. Will work to “package” the sale of service contracts with our boiler lines.
  • Will assist in providing 24-hr service by being “on call” on a rotating basis.
  • Will understand the requirements of ASME Code repairs and its impact on estimating, inspections, welding procedures and material control.
  • Will attend all required bi-monthly safety meetings and training as requested.
  • Experience with operation of boilers, pumps and boiler auxiliary equipment.
  • Must have good communication skills and the ability to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must be certified in the 6G welding position and able to be certified as an employee of our company.
  • Must be capable of performing repairs on boilers and pressure vessels according to ASME and NBIC standards.
  • Repair and/or replace refractory, gaskets, parts, and miscellaneous controls.
  • Perform hydrostatic pressure testing of boilers.
  • Capable of performing maintenance on boilers, pumps and auxiliary equipment.
  • Opening and inspection of boilers, with the understanding of the design and construction.
  • Capable of identifying tell-tale signs of potential problems with boilers, i.e.: tube leakage, scaling, pitting, metals discoloration and refractory failures.
  • Cleaning of the fire and watersides along with installing new gaskets. Performing refractory repairs and replacement.
  • Knowledge in water treatment and how it relates to operation of the equipment. Capable of identifying potential problems when lack of water treatment is performed.
  • Troubleshooting of the valves, motors and safety devices.
  • Capable of reading and understanding mechanical drawings. Along with the ability to make modifications to the equipment per these drawings.
  • Capable of pipe fitting to ASME, state and local codes.
  • Evaluate basic boiler room systems (steam and hydronic), gather information and help solve problems.
  • Must be detail oriented in completing work orders, all required forms, summaries, and checklist daily or as required in procedures manual.
  • Ability to produce detailed but concise quotations pertaining to customer requirements
  • A valid driver’s license is required. Must be insurable with no major infractions. Job will require some travel.
  • Must be able and willing to work the hours necessary to fulfill the needs and expectations of the position and our customers.
  • Must have good knowledge in appraising the customer’s service needs for the repair of various products including boilers, pressure vessels, burners, boiler accessories, and other heat producing equipment.
  • Must be willing to further your knowledge in these areas and any others that will be applicable for our company.
  • Must have the ability to provide some ASME boiler code application support as needed on the various boilers and pressure vessels to assist in proper equipment repair, operation and selection. Some in-house and formal factory training will be provided on a scheduled basis but you are expected to seek the necessary level and frequency of training from the company’s resources in order to become proficient in these areas. Time in the field with our sales personnel is expected in order to develop an understanding of the contractor, engineering and competitive requirements of our industry. We believe these skills are essential in order to provide the maximum benefit to our customers by having a superior knowledge of product applications and operation. This process will provide customer satisfaction and in turn maximize service volume and service margins.
