Description

As a key member of the NYSA Finance team, the bookkeeper is responsible to assist the Controller and Chief Administrative Officer in maintaining accurate and complete financial records according to the principles and policies which govern NYSA’s operations as a nonprofit charity in BC. This work assists NYSA in carrying out its mission to “provide youth with safe and meaningful connections, integrated learning opportunities and access to housing support, so that they may continue on the path to personal independence.” It also ensures that the organization maintains a high degree of accountability with all stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience using Sage (or demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to Sage program) and Excel.
  • Payroll experience including knowledge of BC Employment Standards and benefits reconciliation experience.
  • Ability to understand and use a multi-department environment for accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger. Experience in a similar environment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated positive attitude toward work and colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to communicate constructively and professionally (verbal and written).
  • Strong contributor to team environments. Demonstrated ability to mentor and coach colleagues in financial areas.
  • Able to follow direction, learn new tasks quickly and work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft 365 Suite software including Teams and have knowledge of general office routines.
  • Excellent computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check.
  • Valid B.C. driver’s license may be an asset.

Hours: Monday to Friday

  • 12:00 noon. to 4:00 p.m. -adjustable (20 hours per week.)
  • Some hours outside regularly scheduled work hours may occasionally be necessary.

Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 per week

Responsibilities
  • Payroll: Prepare and process a mid-complexity payroll and reconcile and administer employee benefits.
  • Accounts Payable: Prepare and process accounts payable in a mid/high-complexity multi-department environment. This includes obtaining approval, coding, reconciling, investigating and resolving discrepancies, reporting, meeting deadlines, and managing cash resources.
  • Accounts Receivable: Invoice, trigger revenue recognition and monitor collections in a mid-complex environment. This includes administration of charitable receipt issuances, understanding and applying program/funding rules to billing.
  • Other: Bank reconciliations and recording normal adjustments for payroll/AP/AR adjustments as required. Supporting the Controller in generating monthly financial statements and ad hoc reporting. Extensive third-party reporting, as required in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Process mail and monitor postage needs.
  • Look after office supplies ordering, receiving and delivery.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned to support the charitable organization, its team members and the youth we serve.
