Description

Purpose: To provide professional support for the accomplishment of the multiple tasks related to the accounts payable and cash receipt of church benevolences and other miscellaneous checks of the finance department.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Sort through all mail from the administrative assistant and determine what are invoices, checks from churches for remittances (Benevolences) and documentation for billing. Act as a backup In the absence of the administrative assistant.
  2. Maintain Excel spreadsheets and schedules for benevolence payment receipts and other
  3. Post all cash receipts; benevolences miscellaneous cash and checks in Shelby accounting system.
  4. Write up bank deposits and give them to the Senior Accountant to review.
  5. Review all Benevolence forms and checks for proper coding and dates. Post all church remittance payments in Shelby accounting system.
  6. Answer church questions regarding benevolences.
  7. Call churches with questions related to benevolences.
  8. Perform all activities related to the accounts payable function including reviewing, coding, entering invoices and processing payments. Set up new vendors and process W9 forms for vendor files. Update recurring invoices in Shelby accounting system. Update first of the month vouchers in Excel file.
  9. Perform any billing-related items through the accounts receivable module if and when necessary.
  10. Maintain accounts Payable, benevolence and accounts receivable files.
    The Peninsula-Delaware Conference is a Christian organization that is focused on promoting the teachings and values of Christ. It is not required that the jobholder be of the Christian faith, but he/she will be expected to attend staff meetings that will include Christian worship services.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Associates degree in Accounting, Business or Finance, or related field preferred
  • 2-5 years working in accounting and bookkeeping
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
    Experience in non-profit religious organizations is preferred.
    Familiarity with the United Methodist Church is a plus.
