Primary Accountability Under the direction of the bookstore manager, the bookstore clerk is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations and activities of the bookstore relating to register and cash handling, credit card transactions, inventory and stocking of merchandise. Description of Primary Responsibilities Provide support for book store day to day operations: Create a welcoming and hospitable environment promoting excellent customer service. Performs activities in preparation for opening/closing the store including: working the point of sale register, counting cash register tills and preparing deposits. Maintains records related to sales and inventory. Maintains expertise of products and assist customers on the sales floor. Assists with regularly changing displays to promote the bookstore merchandise. Assists with ensuring the store layout is attractive, clean and displays are replenished Answers telephone calls and promptly responds to customer inquiries. Complies with all employee related reporting and tracking. Supports the development of book store sales and activities. Assists the manager to achieve bookstore goals. Assists customers in selecting merchandise; greets customers; takes customer orders; operates and processes payments across multiple platforms, and maintains records of all cash and charge transactions. Supports book store activities and events. Assists the bookstore manager with planning and executing events. Maintains inventory of vended and specialty items. Works to attract new customers and expanding activities that engage the community. Performs other duties as assigned. Description of Primary Attributes Professional & Technical Knowledge: Must possess a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate. Job duties require specific retail experience and practices, typically learned on the job or which may include a series of training sessions that would comprise a few weeks if done consecutively. Possesses entry level work-related skills, including written and verbal communications skills, and computer skills. Six months of previous customer service and retail experience preferred. Technical Skills: Ability to prepare documents in Microsoft Word. Ability to use Microsoft Excel to review and compile data. Ability to create basic presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint. Communications Skills: Job duties require the compilation of information prepared in effective written form, including correspondence, reports, articles or other documentation. Effectively conveys technical information to non-technical audiences. Remain calm under high pressure/difficult situations Ability to Resolve complaints/issues and defuse angry customers Physical Demands: The physical demands described here in this job description are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
