Description Position summary Run the bottoming operations around the welt: welt beating, shank and filler, cork bed, sole lay, sole press and outsole stitch. Essential functions Beat and level the welt after inseaming. Set the shank, lay the filler and build the cork bed to the specification for the last. Cement, position and press the outsole. Hold alignment to the welt line and to the mate. Operate the outsole stitcher where the style calls for a stitched outsole. Inspect for sole alignment, gaps at the waist, and adhesion at the toe and heel. Cross-train toward inseaming and toward the Goodyear stitcher as your capability allows. Requirements Minimum qualifications No prior experience required at grade P2. We will train you to the station. Mechanical aptitude and willingness to work with presses, adhesives and heated equipment. Willingness to cross-train into inseaming. That is where this department needs people most and where the pay goes up. Physical requirements and work environment This position works on the production floor. Standing for the full shift on a concrete floor. Occasional lifting up to 40 pounds; frequent lifting up to 20 pounds. Repetitive use of hands, wrists and arms. Exposure to leather dust, adhesive vapor and machine noise. Hearing protection, eye protection and steel-toe footwear are required. Reasonable accommodation is available to qualified individuals with disabilities. This position involves routine exposure to adhesives, solvents and finishing chemicals. Respirator fit-testing and chemical-handling training are provided and required. Heated presses and wax equipment create a burn risk.
