Description Advanced Practicums/Internships: Specialist Practicum/Internship – Brain Health Department Location: Easterseals Iowa, Polk County, IA Application Deadline: ongoing until end of the calendar year Description: Easterseals Iowa is seeking MSW students for specialist practicums or mental health counseling students for internships within our Brain Health Department. We offer a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience across multiple programs, including Outpatient Therapy, Crisis Stabilization Services, and Multisystemic Therapy (MST). You will work with a diverse client base, providing individual, family, and group therapy, conducting assessments, and designing interventions. This is a great opportunity for students who are passionate about community-based work and want to build their clinical skills. This level of practicum/internship is typically 600 to 800 hours over the course of an academic year, though length varies by school. Key Responsibilities: - Conduct individual, family, and group therapy in both office and community settings - Perform assessments and brief intervention work with various populations - Support Multisystemic Therapy with case management, assessment, and intervention implementation - Lead group therapy sessions, including DBT-informed groups and topics of personal interest - Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care Requirements: - Enrollment in an accredited MSW or Mental Health Counseling program - Interest in clinical work and community-based services - We are able to work with students requiring flexibility for non-traditional hours (evenings/weekends) - Ability to work independently and in a team setting - Strong communication and interpersonal skills Please Note: Specialist Practicum students who do not wish to engage in community-based or non-profit work should not apply. Generalist Practicum/Counseling Practicum/General internships: Foundation Practicum/Internship – Easterseals Iowa Location: Easterseals Iowa, Polk County, IA Application Deadline: ongoing until capacity is filled Description: Easterseals Iowa offers generalist Social Work practicums/counseling internships for MSW and Master of Counseling Students. This is an ideal opportunity for students seeking experience in mental health and disability services, with a focus on both residential and community-based crisis interventions. Students will provide support to children, adults, and families, while working closely with licensed mental health professionals. Practicums/Internships are available in other Easterseals programs as well. This level of practicum/internship is typically 100 to 300 hours over the course of one semester, though length varies by school. Key Responsibilities: Within the Brain Health Department: - Assist in providing individual and group support within residential and community settings - Participate in therapy sessions, including crisis intervention and brief therapy - Support therapists with assessments and intervention planning - Engage in care coordination tasks with families - Gain exposure to a range of mental health services, including Multisystemic Therapy (MST), Outpatient Therapy, and Crisis Stabilization Services Requirements: - Enrollment in an accredited MSW or Counseling program; or Enrollment in an educational program requiring an internship - Interest in mental health, crisis intervention, and/or disability services - Easterseals is able to work with students who require flexible hours, including weekends if needed - Strong communication and teamwork skills Additional Opportunities: - Paid summer internships through our Camp and Respite Department - Potential paid practicums for qualified students meeting the Crisis Stabilization Professional requirements - Placements or activities in other departments including the Child Development Center, Assistive Technology/Rural Solutions, or Vocational Services. Bachelor Internships: Bachelor Internship – Easterseals Iowa Location: Easterseals Iowa, Polk County, IA Application Deadline: ongoing until capacity is filled Description: Easterseals Iowa is offering internships for Bachelor of Arts or Sciences students, including BSW students, in a variety of dynamic programs, including our Child Development Center (CDC), Assistive Technology Program, and Crisis Stabilization Services. These internships provide a well-rounded experience, allowing students to work with young children, families, individuals with disabilities, and those in crisis situations. Students will engage in hands-on activities, developmental screenings, assistive technology assessments, and crisis intervention, gaining a comprehensive understanding of service delivery across these areas. This level of internship is typically 300 to 500 hours over the course of one semester, though length varies by program. Key Responsibilities: -Child Development Center (CDC): Provide support in an integrated childcare and pre-school setting, conducting developmental screenings and implementing interventions for young children. -Assistive Technology Program (AT): Gain experience in assistive technology assessment models and practices, consulting with individuals with disabilities to define their assistive technology needs. -Crisis Stabilization Services: Assist in providing individual and group support within residential settings, working alongside crisis stabilization professionals to help children and families during critical times. Engage in crisis intervention, assessment, and care coordination tasks.
