JOB SUMMARY:

The Marketing & Communications Design Manager for Girl Scouts of Northern California (GSNorCal) is a hands-on creative role responsible for bringing the Girl Scout brand to life through original design work and visual storytelling. Reporting to the VP of Marketing & Communications, this role leads the creation and execution of branded assets across digital, print, and video channels to support key organizational goals including membership growth, program participation, and community visibility.
This is a highly creative, execution-focused position. The ideal candidate is a skilled designer who takes full ownership of projects from concept to delivery — generating ideas, designing assets, managing revisions, and producing final materials. The role requires both creative leadership and a strong personal design practice. Regular travel throughout Northern California is expected, and proximity to our Alameda office is preferred. Reliable transportation is essential.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Multimedia Arts, or a related creative field.
  • 5–8 years of relevant design experience, ideally in a nonprofit, agency, or in-house marketing environment.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating brand-aligned visual storytelling, layout design, and digital graphics.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere Pro or Rush) and Canva.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to brand consistency.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to take and incorporate feedback productively.
  • Personal accountability and ownership of deliverables, from start to finish.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Reliable transportation for travel across Northern California.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual (Spanish), knowledge of other languages, and cultural awareness.
  • Familiarity with/experience using marketing tools such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud, MailChimp, AgoraPulse, AirTable, WordPress, Adobe Experience Manager, Google Analytics, Canva, and Project Management Applications such as Asana.
  • Knowledge of the Girl Scout mission, programs, and movement.
  • Experience working with volunteers.

In addition, this individual should demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and behaviors in the execution of this role:

  • Mission Driven: Demonstrates commitment to the mission of the organization as a whole and alignment with organizational values. Has a robust understanding of the community served and the landscape in which the organization operates, and actively applies that knowledge
  • Collaboration: Works effectively in teams and with others to achieve success
  • Communication: Uses effective written and oral communication with volunteers, internal staff, teams, and partners; expresses ideas and facts in a clear and understandable manner; demonstrates empathy and listening
  • Critical Thinking: Consistently identifies, gathers, and applies relevant data and information to their work
  • Growth Mindset: Accepts abilities can be developed through effort; embraces learning as essential to growth and success even during setbacks or significant change
  • Nurture Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging: Understands and effectively contributes to diverse, equitable and inclusive practices and spaces that support girls, adult members, partners and staff in knowing they belong; Demonstrates a personal commitment to being an antiracist organization and dismantling inequitable systems
  • Personal Responsibility for Work: Effectively manages their own work, ensuring delivery of high-quality work

Girl Scouts of Northern California (GSNorCal) is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE). Our mission is to build girls and employees of courage, confidence, and character while working to make the world a better place for all people.
