Exciting opportunity to join the Plastic Surgery Breast Reconstruction Service as a CNS to support the patient pathway in breast reconstruction. The CNS in Plastic Surgery Breast Reconstruction Service is a registered nurse who has command of a broad expert knowledge base and has skills and competences to make complex clinical decisions using expert judgement and knowledge and is an essential member of an interdependent health care team. He/she will work within a CNS service both professionally and managerially, which may cross traditional professional or service boundaries. They will liaise with plastic Surgeons, Psychologists, Secretaries, Waiting list co-ordinators, Cancer Trackers, Wards, Outpatient Clinics, General Breast Surgeons, Breast Cancer CNS, and other members of the MDT This role is determined by the context in which s/he practices. They must work autonomously with the guidance of the Lead Nurse, Lead Breast Reconstruction CNS, the Plastic Surgery Consultants and within multi-professional team to ensure a high standard of care to this defined patient group. They must competently perform the necessary technical/invasive/physical aspects of care for this specified patient group. The person will develop their knowledge and skills to allow them to work autonomously. They will manage and co-ordinate their own consultant-based caseload, acting as a role model through the provision of professional leadership and demonstration of competent and effective practice. Effective communication is pivotal while dealing with patients, staff, relatives, and visitors, and they will often be expected to deliver complex and sensitive information.
The post holder will develop within the role and extend their practice though Bespoke Advanced Practice Education at MSc level. Training will take 2-3 years dependent on previous academic and professional experience.
Applicants should have NMC UK Registration. They must be a First Level Registered Nurse with NMC registration, have a minimum of 5 years post registration. They must have at least 5 years’ experience in plastic surgery and be able to demonstrate knowledge/ interest in breast reconstruction. Driving licence desirable.
