Transportation Engineer III: $7,243 / month
Transportation Engineer II: $5,999 / month*
Transportation Engineer I: $5,403 / month*
The Department of Transportation is seeking skilled and motivated bridge designers to help deliver safe, efficient, and reliable transportation infrastructure. Structural Engineering & Design
Perform engineering analysis and design for bridges and related structures.
Determine key design elements including bridge length, span configuration, clear roadway width, material selection, and structural components such as foundations, substructures, and superstructures.
Design key structural components such as decks, girders, piers, abutments, and piles.
Ensure all designs comply with current engineering codes, standards, and specifications.
Prepare and calculate material quantities and support cost estimation efforts.
Support bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects from concept through final design.
Preparation of Structure Plans
Lead the development of structural plans and details in collaboration with drafters.
Review and verify plan details and write clear, accurate plan notes.
Lead and participate in Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) processes.
Determine appropriate unit costs and analyze the cost impact of structural decisions.
Ensure accuracy in structural plans, quantities, and cost estimates.
Act as the lead project designer on projects, coordinating across divisions and districts.
Field Support & Engineering Assistance
Respond to structural field inquiries and provide timely engineering solutions.
Prepare plans and cost estimates for construction Addenda and Change Orders.
Conduct site visits to gather field data and support decision-making.
Attend field reviews and provide written structural recommendations for highway and bridge projects.
Collaborate with construction teams to ensure proper implementation of bridge designs.
Consultant Coordination & Quality Oversight
Review structural analysis and design work performed by consulting engineers to ensure compliance with current codes and standards.
Evaluate consultant design plans for quality, accuracy, completeness, and constructability.
Provide feedback and guidance to consultants to ensure consistency with agency expectations and project requirements.
Monitor consultant progress and maintain documentation for quality assurance.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, and
Four years of professional-level engineering work experience, and
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, and
Requires a class D driver’s license for travel to bridge sites.
