Under the supervision of the Bridge Planning & Operations Engineer, the Bridge Maintenance Engineer is responsible for the inspection, asset management, structural analysis and load rating, including overweight/over dimension truck permit approvals, for existing bridge infrastructure. In addition, the position undertakes project management of bridge infrastructure maintenance/renewal projects including design and contract administration.
The Bridge Maintenance Engineer supervises the Bridge Operations Technologist who undertake bridge infrastructure inspection and maintenance and related asset management tasks.

As the Bridge Maintenance Engineer, you will:

  • Be responsible for Bridge Infrastructure Inspection and Asset Management
  • Oversee Structural Analysis and Load Rating of Bridge Infrastructure
  • Undertake In-house Design & Contract Administration of Bridge Maintenance Works
  • Be responsible for Project Management of Bridge Maintenance and Rehabilitation Projects
  • Perform Bridge Assessment and Improvement Studies
  • Supervise Bridge Operations Technologists
  • Undertake Research and Standards Development
  • Perform other associated general duties

YOUR EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS INCLUDE:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in bridge maintenance/rehabilitation design and contract administration.
  • Significant experience in bridge load rating analysis and assessment techniques.
  • Experience in leading/managing group of technicians and/or technologists in performing engineering work.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years experience in bridge engineering
  • Extensive knowledge in project management principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of bridge structure materials, performance characteristics, service life prediction, and deterioration modes.
  • Extensive knowledge of current bridge design standards, materials, construction practices, and rehabilitation methods.
  • Knowledge of Federal and Provincial legislation and City by-laws and regulations related to the function of the position would be an asset
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing with staff, elected officials, the public, City departments, and outside agencies
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships including supervising the work of technical staff and external consultants.
  • Ability to work under stressful circumstances involving time limits and emergency situations.
  • Strong computer skills with experience using structural analysis and design software
