JOB DESCRIPTION

Our client, a successful and ambitious Bridging and Development lender based in Sale, is seeking an Underwriter to join their growing team. This opportunity has arisen due to continued increases in lending volumes.

Responsibilities

THE ROLE

As an Underwriter in dealing with Bridging and Development products, you will be responsible for determining the risk and eligibility of cases, the role of the Underwriter is to evaluate the viability of applicants for Bridging loan processing.
This means managing the processing of loans within agreed service levels, highlighting risk and building strong relationships.
The role requires a highly analytical individual who can identify risks and pro-actively reduce exposure.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Review and underwrite new loan applications in line with agreed criteria, ensuring service level agreements are consistently met.
  • Collaborate closely with the Business Development Managers to assess the suitability of new enquiries, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and credit policy.
  • Conduct thorough due diligence on all proposals using relevant credit referencing agencies to accurately assess risk.
  • Ensure all case documentation is gathered and stored in accordance with company procedures and data protection legislation.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory and compliance standards to ensure all lending activity remains fully compliant.
  • Support Directors and the wider Sales Team by maintaining transparency in case decisions and promoting growth through professional introducers and packagers.
  • Prepare lending recommendation sheets with outcome summaries for Credit Committee and senior management, supporting robust risk management.
  • Assist in underwriting bridging and development finance applications, ensuring full compliance with internal risk and policy frameworks.
  • Provide updates on case progress using internal systems, enabling stakeholders to access real-time insights.
  • Build strong, effective working relationships with intermediaries, solicitors, and surveyors through clear and confident communication.
  • Support the Customer Services team post-completion where needed, helping to ensure drawdowns are processed efficiently and on time.
  • Contribute to strategic business projects, supporting the delivery of organisational objectives.
  • Identify and propose operational improvements that streamline workflows and enhance customer satisfaction without compromising credit controls.
  • Guide and mentor junior or less experienced Underwriters, enhancing team capability and driving performance improvements.
